Unofficial Tex Murphy

Hi all,

I love the Tex murphy Games, however I have now played them to death.

Can anyone reccommend any other games which are as good?

There really arent any that will give you the same feel. Sure there are other good adventure games, but nothing like Tex. Its a sad reality.

i had a feeling that may have been the answer. Shame really, these games are the best i have ever played by far!

I havent actually played all of the Tex games, but am finding it impossible to get my hands on the ones i havent, i will keep trying though.

Another detective interactive movie style series would be J.B. Harold but they are hard to get for PC. I was able to find a bad quality video copy of the intro sequence and have uploaded it to GoogleVideo: http://video.google.de/videoplay?docid= ... 5618488564




If it´s more for the 3D real-time game interface, you could give the Nick Delios series a try, which is nearly a 1:1 low-budget rip-of of Tex Murphy from Greece (2nd Part in the Making right now).




And if it´s just for FMV-Adventures, well there are still hundreds out there and still produced - just not that well known anymore. e.g. - the next FMV project i´m looking forward to is http://www.darkstar.gs - you could also check out http://www.interactivemovies.org for some other FMV games.

Just a follow up on Conspiracies...I highly recommend you check out the thread on this board that has Conspiracies in the title. While it is an FMV detective game, I think the majority of us agree that it should be played only when desperate for a detective game; seriously though, its a pretty sad game.

I highly recommend Black Dahlia as mentioned above, and Ripper just behind it.

The Gabriel Knight series is very good. The second in the series is also FMV; that's the only one I haven't played personally (I know, I know...I'll get around to it), but I hear extremely good reviews on that one, and I enjoyed the other too quite a bit.

Away from the Detective adventure games, I highly recommend the Zork series (Return to Zork, Zork Nemeis, and Zork Grand Inquisitor) are just classics.

Outcast is also a very high quality game, which will have you thinking about it long after playing it. (I played that game nearly six years ago, and it still gives me fond memories)

Lastly, I would also like to recommend a very cool little game called Scratches. This is assuming you like the horror genre. It's a short game; you can usually finish it in a few days, but very good quality and unique.

Question about Ripper: I've never played it. Is it a first-person perspective game? What kind of navigation does it have? For instance, is it full 3D or point-to-point?

I also agree, although they are a different genre, the Zork games are extremely enjoyable. Nemesis was my favorite.

Ripper was like Black Dahlia, in that there were points you could click to travel. The only difference is that each shot was not 360 deg rotate like Black Dahlia.

If it is, it is now a must buy for me. Wow, I love him.

There isn't a game that comes close to Tex, but I did enjoy Gabriel Knight. After Tex, nothing else ever quite measured up. And nothing recently, in the last four or five years (or more) has caught my interest, even those that have received good reviews from other gamers. But if anyone has played something really worth the time let me know. In the meantime I'm Halo-ing.

i am going to take note of all these games and hopefully try to get my hands on a few. I have just managed to get ripper, so will give that a go.

I am in the middle of Gabriel Knight, the beast within, and while it is good, it doesnt have the puzzles etc that Tex has, so i am not enjoying it as much.

Yes, it is.

Yes, Outcast is a very good game, but keep in mind that is an action adventure, where you have to fight in between.

The atmosphere is excellent for an independent game, unfortunately the puzzle aren't as good. Some of them could only be "solved" by coincidence or a walkthrough.
