L.A. Noire! ...best gumshoe game since Tex Murphy?

Came across this today:

Rockstar Games is pleased to announce a partnership with Team Bondi Pty Ltd to publish the ground-breaking next generation crime thriller L.A. Noire. Developed by Team Bondi, a new Australian based studio founded by Brendan McNamara, of The Getaway, L.A Noire is an interactive detective story set in the classic noir period of the late 1940's.

L.A. Noire blends action, detection and complex storytelling and draws players into an open-ended challenge to solve a series of gruesome murders. Set in a perfectly recreated Los Angeles before freeways, with a post-war backdrop of corruption, drugs and jazz, L.A. Noire will truly blend cinema and gaming.

It looks amazing! I will definitely be keeping my eyes on this game as it develops!

Does that scene from the trailer remind anyone of something?

-Cub. =o)

P.S. Feels good to know this baby is going to be home grown right here in Oz.
I'm a bit worried that there hasn't been any news at all concerning this game for quite some time. Hopefully it just means they've been busy working on the game.
Looks nice... I wonder what they will ask us to improve in our computers this time, in order to play it.
I just hope that it comes out for the PC.

Looks like a cool game. Thanks, Cub!

I agree, Pizza-man. If it doesn't come out for PC I am out of the loop.

Wrong-o Jim ol' buddy ol' pal! That'll just mean you'll have to dig deep in the Geritol-fund and pony up for whatever console that game will be available for 8)

I mean, c'mon! Interactive detective fiction IS the holy grail around here.

Oh, all right, Fred. I guess I'll have to make the jump sooner or later. May as well be sooner, if its for a good cause.

What makes me scared is that its Rockstar. Rockstar = Rushed graphics, models and textures, linear gameplay in a freeform world and poor story writing. I can only hope that this isn't just a Mafia or Godfather or Scarface clone (like they've be known to rip-off in previous games) and that they've actually put some thought into it.

Personally I would have been just as happy if they had made a blade runner rip-off. That'd be quite sweet in a GTA environment - so long as it had bloody good storylines.

Still I am also a fan of the 1930s-1940s so this will be pretty cool.
The trailer doesn't show any first-person views. Is this a completely third-person game?

First-person is the only way I like to play.

Well Rockstar did publish the two Max Payne games which were quite heavy on story despite being pure action games. And I don't agree with you on the graphics, you'll have to sacrifice some detail if you want a huge world without loading screens. The graphics in the GTA games never bothered me. As for gameplay this mix of linearity and freeform seems to be what people love.

But of course to each his own.

Well we don't actually know anything about the game yet but it seems reasonable. 3rd person lends itself much better to consoles and to large open worlds.
YES!

This looks awesome. I have huge expectations for this game and anticipate it to be a paramount title for the console. Is that unreasonable? I sure hope not because there hasn't been a decent Noir game since 1998!
