Using Virtual PC to run UKAM on Vista
I managed to get UKAM to run on my Vista machine using Microsoft's free Virtual PC 2007 program. http://www.microsoft.com/virtualpc
I figured what would work better with Vista than an emulator from Microsoft itself.
Things you will need.
1. Floppy discs or image files of the floppy discs for MSDOS 6.22.
2. MSDOS drivers for mouse and CDrom drivers.
3. CDs or image files of UKAM.
Things to do.
1. Download and install Microsoft Virtual PC 2007.
2. Go through the program and create a virtual pc.
3. Use the "floppy" menu option in Virtual PC to either "Control Physical Drive A:" (if you still have a floppy drive) or "Capture Floppy Disk Image" if you have the image files.
4. Use your floppy discs of MSDOS 6.22 to install DOS like normal.
5. Edit the autoexec.bat and config.sys file to use the mouse and CDrom driver like normal
6. Use the "CD" menu option in Virtual PC to either "Use Physical Drive E:" if you have the game CDs or "Capture ISO Image" to use your ISO files of the game
7. This will allow you to install UKAM on MSDOS just like the olden days
If anyone wants more details let me know.
I've gotten UKAM to run just fine. It's a little disorienting to switch from the main program to the MSDOS window but you get used to it. I've used Virtual PC before on Windows XP as well so it works.
