Eidos Confirms Next Deus Ex
The new Eidos Montreal studio is reviving the action RPG.
by Daemon Hatfield
May 17, 2007 - In a recent interview on French-language television station MusiquePlus the director of Eidos France, Patrick Melchior, revealed a new Deus Ex game is in the works. The revival of the franchise is the "first mission" of Eidos' new Montreal studio, currently made up of around 40 people.
Deus Ex is an action RPG series created by Warren Spector and Ion Storm and originally released by Eidos in 2000. The game received a sequel, Deus Ex: Invisible War, in 2003, but since then the series has been dormant. Ion Storm shut its doors in 2005, and Warren Spector is working on a game with his new Junction Point Studios. Details on this revival are not clear at this time, but Melchior says we can expect to hear more about the next Deus Ex game in a few months.
Yeah play it.. Just don't side with JC because he is an idiot in Iwar. (when you Finnish the game you'll think.. Why the fork did I help that wanker if he was just going to do that!?)
I always side with the Illuminati (in both games) purely because they are the most rational out of any other option. (because the world doesn't change if you let them rule it)
I haven't spoiled anything for you though. IWar has a pretty interesting story - maybe not as fun as the first ones but still enjoyable.
Also the Universal Ammo and the new GUI are frustrating for PC users- the game feels really dumbed down.

YYYYYEEEEESSS!!!!!! My prayers have been answered (and about time too). I hope the gameplay is closer to that of Deus Ex 1. Give the player choice in the direction that the story takes but not as ridiculous as Deus Ex 2. Deus Ex 2 could have done with 2 or 3 story paths rather than 6 or 7 mediocre ones in my opinion.
Deus Ex 1 would have been perfect had they have given JC the option to either collaborate with his brother or work for NSA and have his brother killed. That's the type of story simplicity i'd like to see with the new game rather than giving the player more twists than they can get their head around.

NSA? What game were you playing... Don't you mean Unatco and MJ12?Deus Ex 1 would have been perfect had they have given JC the option to either collaborate with his brother or work for NSA and have his brother killed. Also Paul would have died anyway if JC didn't help Paul. And story simplicity... WTF? Deus Ex isn't about simplicity - its about non-linear complexity. So many changeable variables, that is complex. Hence why modding the game sucks so much. (I'm ex HDTP and presently working on New Vision with SnipaMaster)
Ooops, yes, you are correct there. My apologies. Yes, Unatco is the correct organisation. It's been a long long time since i've played it. As for simplicity, I agree, it's not about simplicity, but there is a distinct difference between DE1 and DE2. The first game, while had many twists and paths, had fewer than that of DE2 making the choices more simple. After reading over my post, I didn't express that clearly enough.mr_cyberpunk wrote:NSA? Yes, I meant choices, DE2 on the other hand just innundated the player with them. While this may reflect the decision someone would need to make in a terror filled world, I still felt it could have done with less to enhance the ability to interface and understand the game that little bit better. I followed and understood DE1, DE2 got overly confusing at times.
Also, in regards to Paul, he actually CAN live on the proviso that JC:
1. Stays behind in his appartment when it is stormed by Unatco/MJ12/Men in black to fight until knocked out, DO NOT go out the window.
2. When in prison, before leaving, go to the sickbay, Paul will be there on the bed, chat to him, he escapes and you have contact with him via wireless audio link.
While in Area 51 you never meet, it's implied that he isn't killed since you're never informed of his death.
If you save paul he arrives in Hong Kong and you can talk to him. In area 51 he will replace Gary Savage by telling you that theoretically Helios is the right choice.
Deus Ex 2 assumes Paul Denton was saved by JC.
I think the biggest problem with Iwar was that it did go off track.. Deus Ex 1 is completely and utterly different from Deus Ex 2, it is almost impossible to see that they are even related.. Apart from that there are a few cameo characters from the first game. I think it lost the plot but unfortunately it has been accepted as the 2nd part in the story and we can't go backwards on it. Deus Ex 3 has to continue the story. Hence why I keep saying the Illuminati ending from Deus Ex 2 is the only way to keep the franchise alive. (as all the other endings are too absolute and won't make good sequels)

That's another shame about DE2, very little continuity with its predecessor. DE1 set up a fantastic gaming universe of characters and locations. As you said Cyberpunk, DE2 is completely different and quite honestly, not done as well.
I'm actually in favour of having DE3 as a reboot, just start fresh but this time allow for continuity in future adventures and don't kill DE4 by having all new characters in the distant future.

I have DX1: GOTY -havent found a good mod for first DX1.
DX2: IWar -I play it with mods to improved the graphics on character and others improvement in the DX2.
Yes, DX2 was a little off track. I thought ending with JC (controlling mind) of all people was weird in DX2. I was thinking that after JC merge with AI. He was tricked and fooled by AI. I was thinking AI tricked JC which leads to DX2 in a malfunction kind of way? I was thinking of that route of what happen in DX1 to DX2.
I am glad about this announcement and hopefully DX3 will be made within year or so.
I was thinking on ENDING.
DX1-JC merge with AI.
DX2-JC 3rd brother (main character) sided with Science (the ending of Illum on the elevator.) and didnt joined his brother Paul/JC ending.
We dont know what DX2 true ending is. This will hopefully be known when and if DX3 be made.
