Here it is. The new Tex game

Okay, so its not exactly "the new" Tex game. But it is a game, based on Tex Murphy.

It's stretching it a bit to call it a game. I'm no programmer like some of you guys are so I had to use a program designed for game making to create this. It took me all of two days. One to make, and the other to figure out how to get the darned thing to work on other computers.

So its really more of a demo. Something to look at and possibly to get a little enjoyment out of. If enough people like it, and like the presentation of Tex Fan Fiction in this way then I may continue it.

If it doesn't work then I might just have to cry. There are instructions inside of the zip file that will guide you through the process, and it should work, it really really should.

Sorry for the large file size. I promise if I continue with this then I will be able to shrink it down.

So play through it, its very short. And tell me what you think. Enjoy everyone.

thanks

Hey Freep, I have Vista's .. am I doomed?

I downloaded it but it won't open. It keeps asking me to open it in another program.

That wasn't very original. Most of the content was ripped and the engine was laggy (which is odd for a 2D game and I'm running a 3Ghz proc with 2GB ram and 2 GF7 graphics cards). The soundfiles are too big and aren't needed.
I downloaded it, and I have WinRar, which is the right program to decompress it with, but I'm getting an error message that says the setup header file is corrupted and so it doesn't extract anything.

My WinRar is pretty old (version 2.7) Could that be it?

I'm assuming that the download process has error checking. My downloaded file has 58,657,300 bytes. Is that the right number?

Have you tried downloading it yourself to see if it works?
Malloy: I can look into it, but I don't know if its supported.

Cyber: You're expecting too much from this project. I have no idea why it is lagging on your system. I have tested it on much less powerful machines other than the computer I made it on.

Doc: Roles reversed eh? I think you might have too old of a version. You have the right file size.

I got it downloaded yesterday - it worked fine on my system and the gameplay was somewhat interesting. I got to check out the info on some buildings and talk to Chelsee + Louie. I can see how this has the potential to be a nifty fan-made game, though there are several areas to improve - I won't start nitpicking since I do realize this is a super-simple demo and you only spent two days on it. All together, pretty neat, though I can think of better and easier solutions to creating and distributing such a game (without any download/installation hassles, etc). Perhaps I'll pop up a little demo of something eventually too

You think I'm bad lol. I've had much worse critique than that trust me. You should have really called this a tech demo because that's what I'd classify it as. I'd reduce the file size because that was one bad thing that simply shouldn't be there because it doesn't justify the scale of the game. (be mindful of this because gamers will rip your head off if the filesize is over sized when it doesn't need to be)

Just be careful because a lot of bitching can dishearten the best of mod/dev teams.
What possesed you to turn Tex into an RPG?
What in that game had anything to do with an RPG besides playing the role of Tex Murphy.

Just because it was made with RPG maker doesnt mean its an RPG.

Truer words have never been spoken.

RPGMaker is a bad engine/gamekit to be using for starters.

Then why is it when I hit the 0 button on my numpad I get an RPG interface?
Because it was made with RPG maker, silly!

Hehehehe :D Hence why my point. They are forcing you to use their system. The great thing about Tex Murphy is the system it uses. My advice would be to try another gamekit like GameMaker or The Games Factory 2. They are much more better for a Tex style game and are easier than RPG maker to code.
Well, I just used it because I wasn't really aware of anything else and I was fairly familiar with this program. Plus, who can't be excited about the final showdown with Jackson Cross.
