The Fletch Weekend

I was watching the movie channels on the weekend and both Fletch movies came on. I thought "Sweet I haven't seen them in years and I love Chevy Chase." So while I was watching them it slowly dawned on me that Fletch is surprisingly similar to Tex.
I guess seeing as it is voice over narration and comedy intertwined it's an inevitable comparison. Anyway aside from the character being a newspaper reporter and in the "modern" day the character pretty much is Tex. Right down to being divorced. Now don't get me wrong they are completely different characters but watching Fletch it had that "Tex" feeling. At least that's what I thought. Now I must state that I have never read any of the Fletch novels but after seeing the movies again I am thinking of picking them up. If I can even find them that is. There's a surprising amount of them:
* Fletch Won (1985)
* Fletch, Too (1986)
* Fletch and the Widow Bradley (1981)
* Fletch (1974)
* Carioca Fletch (1984)
* Confess, Fletch (1976)
* Fletch's Fortune (1978)
* Fletch's Moxie (1982)
* Fletch and the Man Who (1983)
* Son of Fletch (1993)
* Fletch Reflected (1994)
I may like them or I may not but it should be an interesting experience. Something I must note is that the movie sequel "Fletch Lives" is an original film and not based on any of the books. Odd that they went that way but I guess it's alright. Just hope Fletch's daddy was cool with it.

I am curious what others think about the fletch films. Does anyone else see any similarities? Does anyone think I am crazy for comparing the two? Is there anyone who has no idea what I am talking about?
