Screencaps from the new Batman Film - SPOILERS!!!

Hi everyone, not sure if we have any Batman fans here who share the enthusiasm that I do, but there's recently been some new photo's from the set of the film The Dark Knight which is slated for a 2008 release.
They look promising indeed! The joker is definitely living up to the promise that Nolan and Ledger made in that the character will be dark and sadistic. I think this is in order since a re-make of Nicholson's Joker would simply come off second best. Let Nicholson's Joker be, the DVD's are there if you want to reminisce. But I have to agree in that this is very different to what i've ever seen, possibly even darker than what the comics portray. It definitely is a risk though. It's something that will either wow audiences or fall flat on its face, I can't imagine the character receiving a middle ground response somehow.
2008 is a great year for films:
- Dark Knight
- Star Trek
- Indiana Jones 4
- Bond 22
I am just relieved that Christian Bale is doing Batman again. If I remember correctly, all the other Batman actors were one-timers. I think they finally got it very right with Bale. I really like that guy, and I love the Batmobile. I see that we still have Michael Caine as Alfred. I wonder if Morgan Freeman will be in it again, too.
Close. The first batman was portrayed by Michael Keaton, as well as the second one in "Batman Returns" ... I think it went to Val Kilmer, and then Ole what's his face from ER. Yeah, you know that one guy.DrPaul wrote: If I remember correctly, all the other Batman actors were one-timers. I think they finally got it very right with Bale.
I think Bale was really good, and the best by far.
I'm not fat ... I'm festively plump.
My god yes! Also in 2008 will be Sin City 2.
Also love how Keith Ledger looks exactly like the old school joker
Meanwhile check out that rig on that 3rd to last picture.. My system will soon look like that.. only with 3 monitors instead of 8
George Clooney, Batman and Robin - WORST. BATMAN. FILM. EVER.Mr. Thomas Malloy wrote:Close. The first batman was portrayed by Michael Keaton, as well as the second one in "Batman Returns" ... My personal favourite is Val Kilmer. I liked the moody persona he applied to Bruce wayne, it worked nicely. Christian Bale comes second for me, brilliant though he is.

Oh you're suffering
DrPaulAlso in 2008 will be Sin City 2. Some of the plot will take place before Sin City 1 and some of it after.
I forgot about that one! I must see Sin City though, I haven't even seen that to add to my shame.
Sin City is excellent. It has that same comic book quality that I like about Tex Murphy and that its dystopian so the story is brilliant. The violence and adult themes are what really sweetens the deal. Sin City has everything, A detective, Cannibals, Hookers, Drug Dealers, Corrupt Cops, A Samurai you name it
And its done in such an awesome way, its not a movie rather a series of short stories like Pulp Fiction (which funnily enough Tarantino actually helped direct Sin City so its very much like Pulp Fiction)
Definately watch it. 300 is also great as well, I think Frank Miller's work translated to film works too well, the films look and feel like a comic book.
Also if you like Christian Bale. American Psycho is by far his best film, I love it! "Where are you going?!" "I HAVE TO RETURN SOME VIDEO TAPES!"

Second to Batman is Equilibrium. Can't say I'm that a huge fan of American Psycho. I'm sure the book was a good laugh to read back when it applied. I think I was too late to get anything from that movie.
Anyone seen Harsh Times yet?

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
Speaking of Christian Bale films, have you guys seen The Machinist? Totally amazing film. Bale lost like 40 or 50 pounds for the role. Plays a guy who hasn't slept in months and looks like the walking dead. Jennifer Jason Leigh also stars in it as a lovable hooker.
Equilibrium is also one of my favorites.

It's a pretty good movie with some amazing performances but I found it lacking something. It felt pointless in a way. I didn't really feel anything after having watched it. As if they had a good script but it was only good for half a movie.DrPaul wrote:Speaking of Christian Bale films, have you guys seen The Machinist? Totally amazing film. Speaking of the Machinist, I tend to agree a little with Heinz, it wanted to be a better film than it turned out to be. But seeing Christian Bale suck in his chest and have EVERY f'ing rib exposed, it creeped me out to no end. He's someone I'm glad made it big.
The screen grabs look nice and dark. I remember my favorite age of "Batman". The Killing Joke, Batman Year One, and the Dark Night Returns. Throw in The Watchmen, Akira, and V for Vendetta, and I was in comic book heaven. I was a big fan of Grendel (those on the old board might remember me as grendeljen, but that was less mainstream.
....end hijack of thread from comic books, to , uh, comic book movies.

I recall Grendeljen on the old boards. So that was you, huh? Man, my memory is screwed up. Also, Alan Moore's Killing Joke is probably the best Batman/Joker-story of all time.
I also have Watchmen and V for Vendetta in my collection, right between 100 Bullets and Transmetropolitan. To top off my show-offness-slash-geekdom - my favorite comic series to date is Preacher.

I must respectfully disagree with Heinz and Jen regarding The Machinist. I think the Machinist was spectacular. And it's not because I don't have a lot to compare it to. I see at least 200 first-run movies a year and that's not counting movies on TV or DVD.
Maybe because I've seen the Machinist at least half a dozen times, perhaps I see more in it than most people. The Machinist is, in fact, one of those movies that you can appreciate more the second time around because the revelation at the end changes how you perceive everything that precedes it (like The 6th Sense and The Others.)
On the other hand, it's not a film that would appeal to everyone, so if you didn't love it like I did, that is understandable.

Just have to pop my head in on this one. I LOVED Batman Begins. To me, it's the first Batman movie that is true to what I love about the character and the whole Batman mythos. I have never been a huge fan of the Tim Burton movies (which I feel are too "Tim Burton-ey"), and they get progressively worse from there...
Batman is my favorite "superhero," and I'm really grateful for the care and respect that Chris Nolan and his team have chosen to show. I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing how they handle the Joker in The Dark Knight. My favorite interpretation of Mr. J is the Paul Dini/Mark Hamill tour de force from The Animated Series, so we'll see how this Joker stacks up.
