Just an idea.....

how many of us can still get the "trilogy" to work on some sort of computer??
Cause I was just thinking. Instead of a book club kind of thing, how about a group replay of the Tex games???
Taking it slow....maybe one or two (Tex) days of game play a week. Because we've all got jobs, obligations, etc. Then we can all get together and talk about them again, with the gameplay still fresh in our minds. Talk about the puzzles, the one liners. Stuff like that.

I can totally commit to a few hours of that a week. I think it'd be a blast.
We've got some techies around to help out getting things loaded...maybe??? Nilo and Melting seemed to be the experts on this. There are others here too.
I'd love to at least do UAKM or the "crown jewel" PD. It seems that most have played them.

Any thoughts??????????
Actually, I think that could be really cool! Sometimes I get a pang of nostalgia for the older games in general; though usually my mind then gets distracted by the work of the day, thus I never play those games when I'm thinking about them.

I've been going through Grim Fandango again these past two or three days after my obligations for the day have been done. No telling if I will continue my game in progress to the end, or get distracted to the point I completely drop it.

But yes, I think having recreation time for old games is important, and Jen's idea could really add a new element of sociality to it. I'd definitely be in (until work schedule and term papers throw me out tomorrow...)

Yeah, great idea. My only problem is my win95 computer is not working and I can only play TMO on my XP (abd most of the FMV scenes will not play).

However, I'm being selfish. Ya'all should proceed and I will simply follow the thread with great enjoyment.

I also think its a really good idea. Don't worry Jim, if you really want to join in someone can figure out how to get them to work on your system. It's really not all too difficult.

I don't think this is a good idea for a person like me.. as I can Finnish the entire trilogy in under 24 hours :D Sorry, I'm just that good. :D

Sorry, it's just that you've played it twenty times !
Never too late for coffee, never too early for beer.
Cyber....it's all about the savouring. Like a fine wine. Sure, you can finish it quickly, but where's the finnesse? A shared glass of fine spirits among friends, is much better than a shot quickly pounded back alone.
Anybody remember Rollojeff? Is he still about in any form?

He helped me get UAKM and PD working again, way back when.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
I have an old win 98 Machine dedicated specifically for the Tex Murphy Qintology! (and a few other old games)... soundsl ike a good idea to me!!

I have Pandora, and would love to join in. Don't have UAKM though, and the Overseer game jewel I won was missing the last CD, (Curses!), so I can only play till about the point you get to the chess guy.

But yes. Great idea!
I'm not fat ... I'm festively plump.
Pandora works fine and i'm sure i could get Overseer working with a little monkeying around, but alas when i had to rebuy UAKM, the discs arrived corroded.

I'd definitely be up for a playthrough of the last two though :)
I gots a webcomic! http://yetanothercomic.com
Hi Jen, I think this is a great idea. I just set up a computer solely, SOLELY, for playing my Tex games. I'm still trying to get the audio kinks straightened out. Pandora has a few problems yet. I don't know how much time I have to commit to this, but I'm ready to try at least.

I actually got UAKM working quite nicely on my Win XP not that long ago - maybe 6 months ago or so. I'm pretty sure I used the DVD installer that Wintermute introduced to us a year ago, but I'll check it out later and get back to you how exactly I got it up and running.

As far as I remember it actually ran pretty smoothly too :)

Anyway - great idea, Jen! I would love to be a part of it if only I have the time for it. I never know how my days end up after I'm done with work, so it's tough to say if I can get to play the games - but I sure will try. However - from October 15th to 22nd I'll be on holiday in Spain, so I won't be able to join in for that week :)

Another reason I may not have all that much time these days to replay the games is actually quite a positive reason seeing as how my life these days have made a turn for the better ... I'll explain more about this if anyone's interested... ;)

I tried out Pandora on my Vista machine the other day and it worked just fine in dosbox.
If we actually had a chatroom ability, that could be "Da Bomb!" Nothing like chatting about Tex in real time...

Just a simple thought...
