I went to the Apple store nearby just to browse this forum on it. That must have been tricky to type Jen!
My g/f is buying a new mac and as she's a teacher she gets £85 off a new ipod if she buys the mac. She doesn't want an iPod so if I can get £85 ($160) off, I'm going to take advantage of it. I can't get the iPhone on the deal but I don't know whether to go for the 80gb iPod or pay more to get the 16mb iPod touch.
Any suggestions (anyone)?

The keyboard on the Iphone takes a good day or two to get used to. At first I was mistyping keys all the time. But you figure it out pretty quickly. If you've got large fingers, a stylus might be handy. I guess. I can't type with two fingers on the keypad, like I used to with my Crack Berry, but not bad at all.
OK My .02 about the Ipod vs the touch. Seriously, I'd go for the 80gig Ipod. I've got a Nano, (it's my second)and it's super portable, and it's my favorite at 8 gigs. But the drawback is I filled the blasted sucker up. IF you've got a ton of music, and you want a serious jukebox, where you can have ALL your music at the touch of a button, I'd go for the classic (80 gig).
They're much thinner now, more so than the one I bought a couple of years back.
The thing with the IPOD touch, is that the only way you can surf is if there is free WIFI that you can find to hook up to. The bottom line is that the Itouch has one-tenth the storage capability for the same price or MORE, with not much more to show for it. The scroll wheel works just as well as the touch screen, (and it doesn't get all messy to boot.)
I've bought a total of, hold on, crapola...SEVEN ipods in several configurations (including the I phone) for myself, and family, and only the Ipod classics haven't been filled to their capacity.
And BTW...you better not let her play with your Ipod when you get it. There's not one person I've ever met who after getting an Ipod didn't wonder what they did without one.

I actually haven't joined the Ipod revolution. I've had only Creative Labs players from the get go. I started out with an Original Creative Nomad Jukebox 6Gig nearly six years ago, and I now have the Creative Zen Vision M: http://www.creative.com/products/produc ... 1&bypass=1
I've had that one for over a year now, and I think it works great. 30gigs works well for me, and it does do videos and photos too. A year ago, they called it the only real rival of the Ipod...and I think perhaps it is.
