Aaron's answers and whats next??

I was just reading the answers to the questions by Aaron and I couldnt help but wonder the following.....

1. It now seems that a PC release of a game is highly unlikely (ie not possible)
2. Nothing directly Tex related is currently underway or on the horizon.
3. No real Tex game seems likely without a major shift in the market.

I know I have said this before and people always tell me that I am wrong, but it seems that at this point Tex is dead and wont come back. Essentally Aaron was saying what was most likely as the possible avenues for a return, but that means that at this point they are only avenues. Granted I think Aaron is probably working on a adventure type game and yeah sure I am interested, but what does this say of Tex?

Please dont get me wrong, I would absoutly love to get my hands on a new game from the Access gang. But at this point I strongly believe that if we are ever going to get another game it will have to come from us. I hope the talk of a Text adventure doesnt die. I think that is the best chance for a new game right now....

just my 2 cents
Altough you made some good points McDonis, Aaron also stated that if his project is been completed (round october) he would sit down with Chris and look at the possibilities for Tex's future. We just have to wait and see is my opinion

The future of Tex is NOT very bright, but the candle hasn't burned all the way down, either.

Knowing it will be some time before we get another Tex game then let us do what we can to perpetuate our hero. How?

1. Support this forum, its creator, and keep AC, CJ and the others within reach, contacting them when needed for emotional support.

2. Write fan-fics, make up puzzles, have another writing contest, etc. There are some pretty sharp people who visit this site; let's get them to write something witty, fun and mysterious with Tex at the core of things.

3. A wise man once wrote: "Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld." Anyone who has ever had faith in anything will tell you that a closely related quality is patience. Much is desired from people like AC and CJ; much is expected; ergo, much faith and patience is needed. We had four children and I can't begin to tell you how many times I heard them say, "Are we there yet?" And we just left the driveway! So then, let us be like adults and not like children (no offense intended or meant) and let us wait on the powers that be, encouraging them, supporting them, keeping the faith and our reward will come!

No offence taken Jim

I think the point I was trying to make is that we as a group need to face the fact that most likely we are not going to see a Tex game. With that being the case I completly agree with you, we need to keep the fire burning by doing all the things you said earlier. But also I think while the "iron is still hot" so to speak organize the text adventure game. It would be a great way to help fill the void that was left back in 98. Otherwise its only a matter of time before all thats left is just a spare few of us. Again I point to the Space Quest people, their fans were all buzzing with excitement and something like 10-20 fan sites got updated and all charged up when just the possiblity that Sierra would "consider" doing a new game. Then after about 3 years the obvious truth dawned on people that Sierra wasnt going to do another Space Quest. Today the boards are near empty and only 1 site that I know if is updated at all (spareligly).

So while I keep the faith that perhaps one day Tex might get made I am also wise enough to know that it most likely wont happen. With that being the case its time the fans take up the torch and carry on. I dont think I am being childish by accepting the truth and wanting to act. Its not out of pechulance that I posted. I just think that a lot of us have unrealistic expatations of Aaron and Chris. I think the fact that the license for Tex got moved made some of us think that a new game was on the way. Obviously that is not true, granted Aaron if allowed would love to make a game. But again its important we understand the reality of the situation we face. Unless the situation drasticly changes (i.e. adventures become really really hot again) Tex has seen his last PC game. I just think it would be a shame if we allowed that to happen, its time we take up the torch people. We have plenty of talented folks who can write, all we really need is someone with the skills to make an old type text game.

And a very good $.02 worth at that!

Actually, I agree with your assessment. Why? It's on the mark! Still, as Yoda would say, "Difficult to see what the future is."

Also, I feel a text adventure is a great idea and we should pursue it wholeheartedly.
