My new PC... shiny!

Firstly many thanks to Jen for helping me find what I was looking for in the US (you guys have some good prices over there!).

After 3.5 years of using my old PC which is, by today's standards, a relic of the past and in dire need to be put to rest I finally shelled out for a completely new system.

This baby was built from the ground up, and for those who are interested in the technical side of things, here are the specs:

Intel Core2 Quad QX9650 (Quad Core) CPU @ 3.0Ghz
Intel GA-EP35-DSR Motherboard
8GB DDR-II 800 Ram
GeForce 8800 GTS 512mb Video Card
1 X 74 GB WD-Raptor HDD (XP)
1 X 74 GB WD-Raptor HDD (Vista)
1 X 150 GB WD-Raptor HDD (Software)
2 X 500 GB WD-Caviar HDD (RAID-0 = 1TB of double bandwidth access)
Thermaltake Toughpower 750W
Cooler Master Cosmos case

And some pics!

...yes, that is the stock cooler that came with the processor... it's HUGE!

The case is amazing and is so quiet I can barely hear it when it is running.

I'm so glad to finally have it up and running. :D

We have similar computers then Cub! Difference is mainly the casing and you have twice the memory, otherwise it's basically the same computer. Cool gfx-card eh? :D

Funny you should call it 'Cool'.

A driver fault in the 8800 GTS 512s cause the fan to run at 29% even under load which casued a few crashes for me when I was running stress tests... the GPU core temp was reported in excess of 80c!

But I did some manual tweaking via RivaTuner and applied my own auto settings. So now it spins up under load... so it's all good now.

I'd check if yours has the same issue.

I've got absolutely no idea what the hell you are talking about. I kid you not when I tell you I was refering to the artwork on the card's underside. What you're talking about is, I dunno, somewhat alien? You have terms of speak that are unknown to me.

We have much to learn from one another. Can there be peace between us?

ROFL!

Well... basically it means this graphics card pretty much boils when under pressure... bit if you computer is stable then I guess you have nothing to worry about.

For me though, this PC has only seen day 1 of the punishment I plan giving it.

Hmmm... yet I wonder why they misbehave...

8 GB of Ram - I bought my laptop 2 years ago and 512mb was all I got!

That's some mean machine.

...uhm...yeah...can I come to your house too?

Man, I'm green with envy! Ever since my desktop fried I've been using my old Dell Precision M70 Laptop with 2Gig Ram, and I've been looking around for something sweet ~ doesn't get sweeter than that! Well, maybe, but I wouldn't know

If you don't mind me asking, did you get all the parts from the same place, or separately, and did you build it yourself, and how much did it set you back?

That's sexy. I upgraded over 2 years ago, and most of what i play runs fine (Wow and the occasional adventure game and RTS), but it'd be nice to bump up everything on some newer games :)

About the only thing you could tell your wife that would convince her to let you buy one of those is "I have a gun, it's loaded and I'm not afraid to use it..."

Or "Hun im geting u a new computer becouse i think u deserver it."

Or perhaps the evil path C "Hun i found the money in a wallet on the streat"

  That's one killer machine I must say. The $200 case and everything in it are all top shelf stuff. It makes me wish I could ditch this laptop I have and build a killer desktop PC.
