The last film you´ve seen and your thoughts about it

Ok in my case the last film I´ve seen was room 1408 ( inspired by a short story by Steven King) starring John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson.
It´s surely not a film for the hall of fame like the shining, but it think it´s really a good film that lives by the creative idea behind it and the strong atmosphere. The film really had a psychological effect on me, and I take that as a very good sign. It makes you think how you would deal with the hopeless and terrifying situation Cusack is in, and I think it´s really spooky in a good oldschool way. Not much brutality or big effects needed.
The last Film I saw in the Theaters was I Am Legend... Yeah I know I don't get out much...

My thoughts on it... I think that I Am Legend was a bit on the Strange side... It was a good movie, but it was a little hard to follow for a little while...

Last movie that I saw on DVD here at home was 30 Days Of Night... That was pretty good for a Zombie Kill 'Em movie... I realize that with the movie supposing to take place at night, I still feel they could have made it a bit brighter for the viewers...

I'm going to broaden this a smidge....jes cause.

Last movie I saw in the Theatre. Horton Hears a Who. Visually a masterpiece. I've been a huge fan of computer animation since the The Minds eye, and I've lovingly watched it grow, and it just keeps blowing my mind. HHAW (haha haw...no pun intended) is beautifully done. But the performances were incredibly restrained. I'm certain it was the influence of the Suess family, due to the whole "Cat in the Hat" mess. It really had little of the humor of the Toy story or Shrek series, (I was befuddled especially since Carey and Carell were helming the leads) but it was worth watching on the big screen. I wouldn't buy the DVD though.

Last movie on DVD. Last night we watched, "In the Shadow of the Moon", a documentary featuring the Apollo crew that were involved with, traveled, and landed on the moon. Since I wasn't around for the actual event, I enjoyed the footage, and the hearing the "right stuff" from the men who experienced it firsthand.
High point. Buzz Aldrin stops at the bottom of the ladder to the lunar module, takes a quick whiz in his space suit before climbing down to the surface on the moon.

Last movie that I said....you gotta see this.
Juno. Like "Little Miss Sunshine", Juno is a suprisingly wonderful tale with rich and humorous characters, an engaging story, and one of those you walk out saying, "I can't believe we waited so long to see this."
When it's plucking down money in a theatre or watching DVD's, I usually pick genre titles or documenteries, so light comedy/drama is usually last on my list. But this one.....funny, sweet, and affecting. Thumbs WAY up!!
I saw 1408... but thought it was pretty terrible. But that's just me.

Last film I saw was Juno... awesome film, really well done and worked very well for me.

That's all I can really say.

Within the last week I saw Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, The Other Boleyn Girl, Horton Hears a Who and 10,000 BC.

Miss Pettigrew: Although I had a hard time getting all the dialog (I don't hear too well,) I gotta say that Amy Adams lights up the screen like no one else in recent memory. The film takes place during the late 1930's and I just LOVE the Art-Deco style, the music, the architecture, the clothes...and of course, Amy Adams.

The Other Boleyn Girl: Second time I saw it. Did a little research on Mary Boleyn before I saw it the second time. Amazing story. Makes you wonder how different England might be if Ann hadn't pushed Henry's buttons so well.

Horton Hears a Who: Very delightful. A person is a person, no matter how small.

10,000 BC: Very cool. Narrated by Omar Sharif. A surprisingly good story, fantastic effects. Adventure, love, far-away places. Well worth the trip.

I'm very anxious to see Drillbit Taylor, which starts Friday...
Comment on 1408:
I saw 1408 three times. I absolutely loved it and I think it was infinitely better than The Shining. But I guess that's because I was greatly disappointed by The Shining. The book ruled, but the movie left me cold.

John Cusack's acting in 1408 was phenomenal. The story was very original, and the whole production was magnificently done, IMHO.

Different strokes...
1408 didn't completely suck. They built it up very nicely, especially the scene with Cusack and Jackson, really nice work building the suspense. Then it kind of fell into the toilet and instead of crawling back out, flushed itself away.

Major disappointment for my part.

Last film I saw on the cinema though - 10,000 BC. I won't even comment beyond the word 'anticlimax'.

DVD however? Mystic River. Man, that was a good movie, can't believe I've missed it until now. Was well worth it!

Last movie at a theater was I Am Legend. Exciting, good story line, great acting by Will Smith (as usual) and wonderfull nail-biting scenes that had us jumping in our seats.

Last film on DVD was The Invasion starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig. It's a remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The movie was decent and had a few good moments, but not up to par with either of the first two IOTBS movies. Kidman and Craig worked well together and gave good performances, but I got the feeling the producers were trying to film the entire movie in 3 weeks. Still, if you rent it you might not be totally disappointed.

Film on DVD before that was Beowulf. Great CGI movie with a few interesting twist and turns. Story was was good and the voices were impressive. There were times when it was difficult to tell if it was CGI or actual people. But, for the most part you KNOW its CGI. Overall, a good movie to rent.

Next is Ocean's 13. The first one with Clooney and the boys is a fav of mine. Yes, I even liked it more than the original. The second one was okay, but we saw it at the theater and have not seen it since. We look forward to watching #3 and will let you know what we think.

Nice thread, BTW.

Gee...Looking at the list here, you guys don't get out much!

1408 - last year.
I am Legend - last year
Mystic River - four years ago!
Horton - Ahhh. At last, something recent!
Juno - Great flick. But that was last year too.
10,000 BC - Ok. Recent enough.

I don't mean to criticize but come on!
You call yourselves movie fans?
Hey Jim,

Since you're probably the only other guy here that is old enough to have seen it, and since you saw I Am Legend, I was wondering if you happened to see The Omega Man, with Charlton Heston, way back in 1971.

It was based on the same book, I Am Legend. Now, don't get me wrong. I liked I AM Legend. But, personally, I liked Omega Man much more because I liked the portrayal of the zombies (or whatever they were) much more.

In the new film, the creatures were little more than mindless zombie animals. In Omega Man, they were intelligent, organized, and to my mind, much scarier. The Omega Man also had considerably more depth to it's story because the zombies were much more complex and had their own organized society.

Just curious. Don't know anyone else who's seen The Omega Man.
Last movie I saw in the theater was No Country for Old Men and I can see why it won best picture. It was one of those movies where I felt the violence wasn't overdone...it was believable. Javier Vardem was so damn eerie in this movie, I truly felt like he was a psychopathic serial killer. And I loved the cat and mouse game played between the two leads...excellent movie. Tommy Lee Jones and Woody Harrelson gave great supporting roles that helped add to the storyline and keep the movie going and not be stale.

Before that, I saw Mr. Magoriums Wonder Emporium. An excellent movie to sit down and watch with the kiddo's.

We rented on DVD the other night American Gangster, Good Luck Chuck, Mr. Brooks, and the Invisible. Watched American Gangster...just makes you wonder why Denzel and Russel don't team up to do more movies together...excellent movie. Good Luck Chuck was hilarious. I thought it was really funny with a sweet ending. I think Dane Cook does better when he's just acting and not acting funny...anyone understand that? We're gonna watch the other two tonight probably...I hear Mr. Brooks is "the $#it" so I'm pretty excited to watch it..plus I love Kevin Costner so, yanno...works out well.

I haven't seen 1408 yet, I want to because I thought it looked very interesting. If you guys like John Cusack as much as I do, and you also like thrillers...you should watch Identity. That movie will F you up....great plot twist.

Hmm...
Movies I've seen lately. I'll divide this into two categories:

In the Theater:
Jumper: Fairly interesting; one of those movies you could get a headache watching as there is so much movement. There's definitely room for them to expand on the story and characters.

Untraceable: I thought this one was pretty cool. A good thriller.

I watched Click on Demand the other night. I hadn't ever seen it before. I thought it was very well done. It was actually quite emotional and had a powerful message.

I watched Into The Wild last night. It's based on a true story where this college graduate breaks free of society and goes off on his own and ends up in Alaska living in a bus. I thought it was very well done; yet sort of a sad story.

I don't watch absolutely everything I can all the time, Doc. I'm a movie fan, but hey, there's limits to what my time allows. Sometimes it's nice, picking up a movie you've heard was good, it's maybe some years old, but hey, so what? You pop it in and go WHOA!!

Always a treat.

Speaking of which, I've still yet to see Taxi Driver or The Deer Hunter. I know, I know, I should go hide in a corner, ashamed and so on. Meh. Can't be bothered. I'd rather go watch the films themselves.

Saw The Lost Boys yesterday, classic cult vampire film with Kiefer Sutherland from '87. Good fun.

Okay, was made sit through Enchanted last night... Movie was kind of Corny, but I guess it was okay for a Chick-Flick... Acting Talent could have been better for sure...

I also saw that "Dan In Real Life" recently... Not what I expected... I expected a Comedy, I guess I should research movies more before watching them... It ended up being a Drama and I was rather disappointed because I was expecting to laugh a lot... I had to break out "Brain Donors" to get a good laugh afterwards...

I hope you guys realize that my comment about you guy's movie attendance was in jest. Plus it gave me a chance to show-off a little.

I just got home from seeing Funny Games.
A pretty disturbing and frustrating movie. I don't know how widely distributed it is. It's about a pair of twisted, upper-class, overly polite but demented teens that terrify families in a New England vacation area. Michael Pitt is always brilliant at playing a character you love to hate. No exception here.

How I find time for the movies:
The average person watches about four hours of TV per day. I don't watch any TV, but I go to the movies about three times a week. That averages to less than an hour a day. I get to see first-run movies on the big screen, in all their glory. Beats the heck out of TV. I've seen everything that has been mentioned so far, except Jen's Shadow on the Moon.

Fred: You talkin' ta ME?

Adnins: You heard right about Mr Brooks. Fantastic! I don't think Costner can act his way out of a paper bag, but he was born to play Mr. Brooks.

No Country for Old Men: I love the Cohen Brothers, I enjoyed NCFOM, but I think it was over rated. Especially the ending. Left me cold and feeling cheated. I asked for my money back. Javier Vardem kind of reminded me of the Chameleon.
