Tex and Sylvia

I'm against divorce except in extreme situations and I had this dream last night of mapping out the possibility of a Tex Murphy game where Chelsee got shot in the neck with a sniper rifle by a third party allowing Tex and Sylvia resolve their differences and resume their marriage. Think its still a possibility?

I'd have to say no.
First of all, killing off Chelsee is much too high a price to pay.
Secondly, the whole terrible situation with Sylvia, to a great extent, defines who Tex is.

Tex would be a completely different character if he were (happily) married to Sylvia.

I think we also have to understand the order of events leading to Tex & Sylvia's divorce.

We know from Overseer & UAKM that Sylvia has no qualms against making or saving money by seductive means, & we also learn that she has no control of her spending habits.

But the straw that probably broke the camel's back the most was when Tex got information from Rhonda Foxworth in MM. Since Tex emotionally had been in the dumps since MM (he says so in his monologue at the beginning of UAKM), it's safe to assume that Sylvia's the one who filed for divorce, & that they were still married at the time of MM, which shows that Sylvia feels free to do all the things she does but Tex has to always take the moral high road, something he failed to do with Rhonda, although it yielded vital information to his case.

These experiences could also be why Tex had to refuse Regan in PD in order to get the best outcome. He knew the kind of person Regan was because she reminded him of his ex-wife & therefore knew a relationship with her, no matter how sincere his feelings were, would not work out, & he'd end up worse off than when he met her. That sounds like a very healthy reason to wait for Chelsee's return from Phoenix to me.

As for Chelsee dying, leading Tex to get back together with Sylvia, ARE YOU INSANE??!!!

A loyal Tex Murphy fan,

I have to agree, killing Chelsea for any reason is too high a price for anything...

And like Doc said, Sylvia has helped to shape and mold Tex into who he is... To put him back with her, you'd be asking Tex to do a 180 and he would never be the same...

Excuse me? How is Tex and Sylvia NOT an extreme situation?

I do not have any moral difficulties about Tex divorceing Sylvia, or the other way around. As far as I know Sylvia is not at part of the story anymore (that is, if her marrriage to Tex was not some kind of arrangement that we are not yet aware of). As we heard in the Radio Theathre, Chelsea is very much a part of the story that is to be unfold, frozen in the ice somewhere in the North Atlantic.

Besides, the marriage with Sylvia was a mistake from the get-go. I mean, the only thing missing from this catastrophe was a Vegas 24-hour drive-through chapel.

Well now that you mention it, San Francisco isn't that far from Vegas...

BTW: Isn't Chelsea a mutant? The fact that we can't see it is, you know, making me nervous. :|

The only good thing that came out of Tex's Marriage was the fact that she got him a discount on the Cleaning of his Chairs in his office...

Were Tex and Sylvia even still married at the time he had an outing with the secretary?

 This canon is so messed up. I guess we'll have to say that they were, um, separated at that time.
