Disc problems
I am having discs seemingly just up and crack through and for the life of me cannot figure out what I am doing wrong.
I always handle discs by middle hole so am not touching surfaces
When playing games where disc changing is frequent I lay the discs surface up so as not to scratch the information area when sliding disc up into my hand
I store discs flat in jewel cases
Discs are not near any heat, sun etc.
I have complained to techs frequently about discs seeming to be hot when I take out of drives but they keep saying that is normal.
The two discs so far that have cracked are one of Pandora discs and a Riven disc.
Any ideas, suggestions as to what might be going on so I can remedy and save further damage to discs?

Sounds like a problem with your CD-ROM... If for some reason it is making the Discs too hot they will crack...
You had talked about problems with your CD-ROM in the past when we were trying to get your games up and running... Is this the same Drive or have you replaced it???

What kind of Computer do you have???
Just about anything out there will work, just don't go with the Completely lowest priced item... As the saying goes {most of the time}, "You Get What You Pay For"... You don't need the Most Expensive, but at the same time you don't want to get the Cheapest... So just a little shopping around, just grab something that is in the Middle... Sony makes a good DVD-Rom and I believe they have a few different types that vary in price ranges...
If I remember correctly, you had a 2nd DVD Rewrite Drive, correct??? So I wouldn't worry about getting another RW drive, just look for a basic DVD-ROM...

Yes. Your current cd-rom is no longer any good. You should buy a new one if you want to save your remaining discs from certain Doom.
I suggest Samsung, they've always been trusty. At least to me.

yeah some brands do seem to heat up like crazy in my experince.
ok my 2 euro cents
i used to have a cd a dvd and a cd/dvd burner thinking its best to have a sourse and a target drive that are not the same but in the end it just means more space wasted in your pc and the pc will heat up alot faster with all that hardware so now i just have one combo drive and use iit for all.
having a system case with extra cooling might work but keep in mind the head build up is from inside the drives itself hard for airflow to kool that. unleass u use dedicated bay coolers.
