I wanted to tell you guys about the recently released movie,The City of Ember. However, I noticed that "The last Movie you've seen..." thread was already 27 pages long, so I figured I'd just start from scratch here.

I loved this movie! It didn't have a complicated plot. The characters were relatively simple. There is, potentially, a lot of symbolism or metaphor in it, but the thing that really grabs you is the City. This place was visually stunning absolutely amazing!

Now, I know a lot of you guys don't like the Myst series. But the thing that struck me about Ember is that it is very much like a Myst-world come to life. The technology, the machines, the architecture, all amazingly Myst-like. Also, the story was very classic adventure game-like. It had puzzles, scraps of paper, combining objects, secret rooms, locked doors and amazing machines.

It was just so cool. I loved every minute of it.

It's not great art. It's not sophisticated, but it takes you away to a strange and wonderful place. DrPaul highly recommends!

Never heard of it, but I looked it up on Rotten Tomatoes. It stars Bill Murray (that's a bit of a surprise), and RT gives it a 47%.

That's that underground movie, isn't it??? It also has Tim Robbins in it... I've seen previews for it, it has a couple of kids trying to prove that the Surface world is habitable or something like that...
Either way, the Previews look good enough to give it a try...

I thought it looked pretty sketchy from the previews, but I am now kinda interested.

the film looks VERY interesting, and I definitely plan on seeing it. From the trailers I cannot help getting a Bioshock/Fallout kind of vibe from the whole thing, which is not necessarily bad.

Either way, I m interested to see what Bill Murray and Tim Robbins add to it.

Fallout and Bioshock. Goddamn son! After seeing the trailer for it I couldn't agree more. It doesn't look like sophisticated art, but sometimes, that's not the kind of entertainment you want. Sometimes you want escapism instead.

And if you can combine that with wishful thinking, it's a recipe for success. Why do you think Harry Potter is doing so well?

Anyway, this movie will take a long time to get to me. Crap.

Well, Gary, I read part of that review and had to exit the page. I see why he's called the filthy critic, emphasis on filthy. As far as the movie goes, I look foward to seeing it.
