Well, while it is definitely a cold and miserable season for you folks in the northern hemisphere, what with all the snow in the UK, and temperatures in excess of -30C in Canada, I thought I would give you all an update on the weather downunder.

Today is going to be 38C... not the hottest I've been in but pretty darn warm.

But here's the kicker: This weekend we are going to reach 44C. For those of you who don't already know, fellow member Netroam and his partner will be joining me in Sydney this very same weekend to do the tourist thing. Should be a very nice surprise for them indeed! I reminded him to dress and carry lightly, and keep plenty of water on them.

The hottest I have ever been in was 47C in Victoria about 8 years ago. Icy poles melted before you had a chance to put them in your mouth, tar from the roads molded your shoes to the ground, and if you parked your car outside you would've literally suffocated if you tried to hop in and drive them! The coldest I have been in is -5C... not too cold at all really... but I am more of a summer guy.

So that's that... right now I am in an air conditioned building and the outside weather seems innocent enough... but looks can be deceiving.

As for the weather, we go up and down here... Most of the week it's been in the teens or 20s {F} but this weekend they are saying we will be up in the 50s {F}...

The two are related, I think. Cold air sinks, and hot air rises. So a cold front as it travels will move warmer air as it moves.

...It's been a while since I learned this in college, but it works something like that.

Wow thats pretty cool/funky. Blazing hot for you in Australia and freezing cold snow here in the UK. Pretty weird start to the year.

Yeah it's still cold here, mind you it warmed up to -20 so I can at least stand and wait for a bus without losing an ear. Truthfully though as much as I bitch about it, I would rather have the cold than the heat. I think the warmest I was in up here was +43/45C when I was working at an old fort. (historical reenactment tourist trap) The place was crawling with tourists and I luckily worked in the only air conditioned building. The poor buggers who were playing the British soldiers must have REALLY hated their jobs that day. Big wool coats and all. I was dying in a T-shirt and shorts.

Northern Ontario, near the lakes. South enough to get the summer heat from the States and North enough to get the bitter cold that's WAY more north in Canada. I'm all over the place up here. Did you know that Lake Superior changes 4 degrees all year round? That includes the coldest winters and the hottest summers. Pointless fact of the day.

I agree with this. On my way to work this week it's been between 15F and 18F. We had a few flurries on Wednesday, but nothing substantial. Maybe it will warm up soon.

That's exactly what I've been saying, they keep sending us the Arctic Air, but now Snow to go with it...
