Cub's next project... a sneak peek?

Well, kinda... I am currently working on a new project and am in the very preliminary pre-production testing and research phase, and decided to share a few developments...
I have been ploshing up on some 3D and compositing work, mainly in the special effects area, and have a test clip to share with everyone today. Just a simple fire and smoke test I animated in 3D Studio Max.
Enjoy:

...it's not much, but I am quite proud of how this turned out so I thought I would share it. This is all computer generated keep in mind.
For the moment I don't want to give away too many details on what I am working on, as I would hate to promise something I might struggle to deliver upon. But I can assure you it is not Tex related. It is a personal project.
Peace.

Really??? I hadn't read this far in your post when I clicked on the link and watched it... I thought it was a real flame and you just added some purplish colors to it... All Computer Generated... That's great work Cub... The Flame looked very real to me...

I noticed that was test 3. Were the first two a bit weird looking?
Looks good.

Haha yeah they were not as convincing... the first one had too much turbulence, and the second had too little gravity so the flame was huge, and way too airy. Both of the two original tests were done on different objects.

NIIIIICE! What plug-in for max is that? I've been trying to get my hands on that one (can't remember the name this second) that makes realistic meteors. I think it's combust or something like that. Is that part of the same package?

You referring to Afterburn?
Anyway, this was done using FumeFX.

AFTERBURN! Yeah, that was the plugin! I had the demo installed a couple years ago (I think) and played around with it, wild stuff! But then the demo expired and I had to get rid of it and completely forgot what it was called. You'll have to let me know about FumeFX, it's by the same people and from what I have seen from they have surprisingly awesome stuff. Keep us posted with what you intend to do with it, you got me curious.

All around, top work as usual there, Cub! Afterburn is my favourite from those. Keep it up and keep us posted

Not the best time to be a pyromaniac around Australia man
Looking good. I especially like the smoke.

It slightly reminds me of the tests WETA was running during the filming of Fellowship for the Balrog.
Looks neat

Cub, good job!
(But just between you and me,
I know that this is really video and not CG at all. No, don't worry -- your secret's safe with me.

That's some VERY good work, Cub. That flame is extremely realistic.
