So you like Sierra Adventures.....

Just thought I would let people know that it appears that Sierra is about to re-release their Quest collection series on Windows XP. They are taking pre-orders on Amazon.com

Also if you are looking for a place to talk about collecting or just sierra in general check out....

Hey McD! I never played those games but I've seen a lot of good feedback regarding them. Are they adventure games and would you personally recommend them? Thanks!

Yes and No

The Sierra games were top notch for their day and frankly there are so many great adventure experiences inside those games its a real shame that you missed out on them. I would have to say that at least 3-5 of those games were either as good as Overseer or better!

However the last really good Sierra Adventure game of that era was released well before Pandora. So the graphics are quite below the standard set by UAKM. Also some of the best Sierra games are text driven adventures. If you havent played one of those before its real hard to try now.

I suggest that you check out either Mobygames.com or Vintage-Sierra.com for more info. Both can give you all the screenpicks and reviews you could ever want.

Personally I think if you can handle some retro graphics then you will love them. The story options and game play is in my opinion the best ever. Even though Tex is high in my book I place it in its own catagory under FMV adventures. For a non FMV adventure you cant beat the Sierra lineup. NO question.
Ooh interesting!! Thanks.:)
So they'll be re-releasing the Space Quest series too? :D
Can you post the Amazon link? :? Sorry, I could only find the individual games, maybe I'm not using the right search terms :(

(I wonder if they'll ever do this for the Goblins series, then again I haven't taken a good stab at playing them on Windows XP yet, but it'd be nice either way...)

Man, i have lots of fond memories of Sierra adventures.

Police Quest was my first adventure game.

Other awesome memories come from Space Quest 4, King's Quest 5, 6 and Gabriel Knight. Also when i was a teenager, the Larry series provided some amusement.

And if you have kids, i think they'd have heaps of fun with the Dr. Brain series. I remember "The Island of Dr. Brain" was a hoot back then.

[edit] damn, i almost forgot about the Golbins series. Those were great! Though technically, that was Coktel Vision, not Sierra ^^
I've only played some of the Space Quest games. Very funny and good! :D
Are the Police and King's games like the Space series?

You know I too thought Goblins wasn't technically Sierra, but I just saw it on that "Vintage Sierra" site and it reminded me of them. I was thinking, um was it Sierra? It seems Coktel is the producer but Sierra seems to of just distributed/published it. So I understand now hehe :)

Well the Police Quest and King's Quest series are a little more dramatic than Space Quest. King's Quest does have an off the cuff kind of humour though. Bad puns too.

Interesting note is apparently all develops were put on King's Quest games as training before they made their own. The Two Guys From Andromeda worked on King's Quest 2, Al Lowe worked on KQ3 and Jane Jenson was co-writer for KQ6 (i knew there was an underlying reason why i loved that game so much).
lol... king's quest....
That brings back memories... including one that (on kg7 I guess) you had to have an old shoe on your inventory so that once you hit a street in front of a tavern you could hit a cat chasing a mouse (they took about 5 seconds to cross the whole screen ), should you not hit that cat would loose the game. Plain and simple. Why? The mouse was to repay you for saving his life when you were tied up by eating your rope :o. It took me about 10 times to finally hit the damn cat!

Thank you so much for the links! I really appreciate it.

$20? Seems like good value!
I definitely want the Space Quest and Leisure Suit Larry compilations. :D

Thanks for the tip about Police and King's series Atomicvegetable. I'll look into them more. :)

Hm I just remembered Amazon's American site (.com) wouldn't ship games to the UK. I'll have to see if it comes up on a place that will or if it comes over to Amazon.co.uk :?

They will be mine.

Oh yes, they will be mine.
AV: Great reference to Wayne's World ;)

Ah yeah - the memories of Larry, Kings/Police/Space Quest series. I have had plenty of fun playing those, but I also had a lot of fun playing through the following Sierra-titles:

Peppers Adventure in Time
Future Wars
Operation Stealth
Gold Rush
Freddy Pharkas: Frontier Pharmacist
Codename Iceman

and more

+ having the Johnny Castaway screensaver running whenever I didn't use my computer for a while. Now that was funny ;)

I started adventures games (and PC games in general) with Kings Quest, Police Quest and Larry. They also helped me learn how to type!
I also loved Space Quest. I thought it was so cool when they switched to point-and-click with real voices (from Space Quest 4 onwards I think).

I like to see these games as the benchmark for all adventure games, for characters, storyline and humour. They certainly deserve to be brought back for all to enjoy.
A lot of the above mentioned text-based adventures (games that required the user to write a command in order for the character to do something) actually tought me a great deal of English even before we had it in school, so I was way ahead of all my other class mates once we did get English in 5th grade (nowadays they start English in 3rd grade though which I think is great). Anyway - I so loved them all and they really did set a standard for adventure gaming throughout the 90's :)

OH MY GOSH!!! AHH! I've been trying to remember the title to that games for years. I could remember the setting and the characters and what the artwork roughly looked like and that it was funny and some of the tasks you had to do.
But I couldn't remember what on earth it was called! Thanks so much!
