Do you know someone in the Indie Games Developer community?

Please let me know. I could use some help in acquiring contacts. Y'see, I recently finished the script for a game. However, I cannot program, I'm useless with AGS, I can't draw or paint or create any kind of artworks, and so, I would need people with actual skillsets within these areas.

I work for a living these days, and I've some small meager funds. I would be willing to pay to have a very small group of select people work on this project.

If you do know anybody who've the skills necessary to put a game together, please help me get in touch.

Much obliged,
-Fred

Hey Fred, maybe i´ve got some advice for you. Check out my other thread about indie developer Dave Gilbert. He´s one of the stars of the indie scene and at the same time probably one of the nicest people on this planet. He´s gone through all this before and i know that especially in the beginning, he got a lot of help from other people in the indie scene ,when he didn´t know what to do next. There seem to be quite some indie boards throughout the net ( you should try the Adventure Game Studio board for example) and quite an extensive exchange between people. Dave surely knows about all the particular boards.

If you want to contact Dave, you only have to go to the Wadjet Eye Games website and send an e-mail to the contact-adress, http://www.wadjeteyegames.com/contact.html or register on his board and send him a private message. In general , I have no doubt that he is gonna answer, since he´s a very helpful guy. The only problem at the moment might be that his new game Blackwell Convergence is gonna be released in June, so he´s probably extremely busy right now and this might (!) be an exceptional situation right now. Just try it though, Dave is probably one of the best guides you can find. :D

If i have any further ideas, i´ll let you know.

I do know someone actually and so do you :)

Does the name Aaron Conners ring a bell?

This is a serious suggestion too as Big Finish Games are an independent, underground gaming studio for the time being. At the Big Finish forum, I actually started a thread where I asked about possible fan participation in future projects and Aaron replied stating that this is exactly what he intends over the next few years. His intention is to have fans have a bigger role in the production of games outside of beta testing and playing them. It can't hurt to ask. Just send him a PM at the forums, just at least to say hello and raise the question. You never know.

You know you could always put him in touch with those folks from alternative games Joel. I'm sure they can help him out. Last time I heard they were doing well... LOL!

Man, i know your pain Fred.

I've had not only an AGS game written for years, but about 2 other game projects hardly off the ground because of lack of programming. I'm trying to teach myself java at the moment just to give me some experience in that field, but it goes slow.

Keep persevering!

It also doesn't help i'm particularly lazy and unmotivated ^^

I'm still waiting on Cub to take over the entertainment world to start plaguing him with stories.

In the immortal words of curling, HURRY! HURRY!

Absolutely. In fact, they might be purchasing the rights to Duke Nukem Forever.

Man, what a joke that company was. I still believe that it was a couple of students doing their PHd in Psychology to evaluate the behavioural patterns of online communities. There's no way they could rationally think their approach would be financially viable.

I got a reply from mr. Dave Gilbert of Wadjeteye Games. You were right, he's a really decent guy! Got some good tips from him I'm going to follow up, which, if nothing else, will save me money in the long run. But I'm fairly certain it's going to cost me to get a game together eventually.

Incidentally, any poor graphics/art students here willing to put in some work for some bucks? Strictly spare-time job. Inquire within.

By which I mean, send me a PM :D

I know lots of people in indie game development since I used to do a weekly column on idie games for IGN, but they're kind of all working on stuff right now.

I think you're probably approaching this wrong. If you need an artist, you should be posting on an art board, etc. They don't have to have "indie game" experience. Go to the pixelation forum. If you have something promising, there's always going to be people there to help out with sprite work.

I don't know if the kind of game you are willing to do is an adventure game, but if it is, there is an essay of Ron Gilbert (creator of Monkey island 1 and 2) about his 12th commandments of adventure game design. It could be helpful.

Good luck with your project!
