E3

So yes, E3 was last week where many announcements for the video game industry were unvieled.

Personally the highlight of the show for me was the Monkey Island news but for those who are interested in what went down, those who need a reminder, those who like video games, or just those who want to hear two guys talk about things should check out the E3 special of The Console War Veterans at http://www.consolewarvets.com

my co-host Andrew and I delve into the deluge of video game news and new releases every Wednesday so why not give us a try.

Gee, i should have gone into marketing.

Wait a second...Monkey Island was the best news out of E3? You mean that a poor man's secondary company taking a uncaring primary company's long dead series to resurrect it for more redundant point and click dialogue based puzzles mistakenly placed under the concept "adventure" is the best news of the whole shabang?

Even with Microsoft's Project Natal, or PS3's enhanced motion sensor or Nintendo's vitality sensor (god knows what they'll use that for)...

Even with Final Fantasy 13, 14, Metal Gear Solid: Rising, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach, God of War 3, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Crackdown 2, Alan Wake, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Gran Turismo 5, Metroid: The Other M, the best news was something from Telltale Games?

I suppose decent adventure games have been a dime a dozen these days, and especially when mediocrity is considered impressive.

P.S.

I have played two episodes of their games. Strong Bad: Episode 1 and Strong Bad: Episode 2. I've also played the demo for Sam and Max. After playing through the episodes I decided I could've skipped both and just played the demo to Sam and Max again. It seems as if all they do is whip the art into shape and copy and paste it to call it a new game/episode.

P.P.S.

I've never played any Monkey Island game. So...that might explain my general lack of excitement over the series "return."

Well my excitement was kind of split between the remake of Secret of Monkey Island and the new Telltale episodes.

And yeah, having not played the games, i would imagine you would be wondering "what the hell?" ^^

It's kinda like if a new Tex game was announced last week, along with a remake/re-release of Pandora Directive. The Secret of Monkey Island and The Curse of Monkey Island are 2 of my favourite adventure games.

but to expand on what i also was hyped about this E3: Lords of Shadow, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M, Alan Wake, Scribblenauts... and Conviction doesn't look too shabby either.

What about Heavy Rain?

And anybody who've not played Monkey Island in any form is not allowed to criticize it. It's like having never ever tasted chocolate and complaining that it's just another product made of little brown beans.

And again... Did they say anything about Heavy Rain?

It's going to take a while before I get excited again over a console news, especially one made with lasers and loud music at a convention.

Metal Gear Solid...Is that the one where they announced the return of Raiden? :P

There was an E3 Trailer, and the game is looking really good but that was one of the things on our podcast we were amazed wasn't talked about at the Sony press conference. It seemed to be a no show.

I've never played Monkey Island either, so I was more excited to hear the Announcement of Meat Gear {especially since they kept saying that the last one was the absolute last}...
I'm also very hyped about God Of War 3... GOW is an awesome game as is Part 2, and I can't imagine Part 3 being any less of a game...
Frank wrote:Metal Gear Solid...Is that the one where they announced the return of Raiden? :P
Yes Raiden is mentioned but it is also suppose to be about Big Boss... I guess that maybe it will jump back and forth in time since Raiden took Snake's spot in Foxhound and Big Boss dates way back... Not sure how this will unfold, gonna have to buy it and play it I guess...

As for Final Fantasy, I can't believe on one day they announced 13 and then turned around the next day and announced 14... That was pretty funny... They look like great games though, the graphics alone warrant a play through...

FF 13 will be a singleplayer JRPG, and FF 14 will be Final Fantasy XI-2. A MMORPG, in other words.

Have played every game on the system and have so far only been impressed by uncharted.
But heavy rain looks exactly like the type of game I'd like to see more of.
It is prob the only reason I have for owning my ps3 at the moment. My, PC, 360 and wii get a lot more use.
The other titles i saw from the e3 videos that I liked were of course the remake of mi, mi tales (stoked for both and preordered tales on the spot at telltale), gears of war 2 expansion (mediocre story but good multiplayer when friends are around), also looking forward to team ico's new game, last guardian on the ps3 and I can't wait for the new assassins creed, for some reason I loved the first one and can't wait at all for the second!

Hmm, seeing as though the tex murphy rights are owned by big finish games from what I've heard recently, and that telltale have hinted that they are helping out, I can't wait for next years e3, anybody say a new Tex Murphy!?!?!??!

Matt, good to have you posting with us... Welcome to the boards...

Yes, Heavy Rain looks like an awesome game... Cub posted Screenshots of it a few months ago, I was hooked since then...

The announcement of a Tex Murphy at the next E3 would be beyond awesome, but something tells me it will take them a little longer than that to get it made, maybe 2011 with some luck... I really do hope they stick with the FMV style, but AC said something awhile back that makes me worry it won't be in that style... Hopefully he changes his mind when it comes time to begin work on it...

thanks for the welcome :D

I have been here for years but have only recently made an account.
Yeah it is wishful thinking that something will be shown at next years e3 and you're right, average production time for a game is 3 years and if they are making a tex murphy, they would barely have started so it won't be demoed till 2011 or such.
Aaron's right in what he said about it being too expensive these days to shoot fmv material for games. Green screens are very expensive, so is the cost of bringing in decent actors and getting modern day equipment up to industry standard.... But even if it is all 3d, i wouldn't mind, as long as i get to hear tex's voice again. Ha three cards till midnight lol
