A question, Cub...
Have you ever used Propellerheads Reason? I just got it for compatibility...er... reasons (I swear that wasn't intended).
The (aaargh, not again) reason I ask is this:
It turns out I may be doing some other side projects for a small gaming company around here, and, since my time is becoming increasingly limited, I thought I might try to send some work your way. I liked what I heard on "Calling the Storm" and you seem to have built up a pretty good sound library as well.
Their audio department is using mostly Reason, but they mentioned another popular sequencing program as well, one that you, er, have a passing familiarity with
I can't guarantee that I'll be anything steady (or even halfway regular, for that matter), but it might be a nice way to make a bit extra on the side every once in a while, doing something you like to do (and get a game credit or two as well).
We'd have to work out some of the formatting issues, as well as a way to get you paid, but I've been working with a couple of directors out of New York now, doing music for little short films without ever meeting them face to face, and it's worked quite well, so I'm pretty confident that distance won't be as much of a problem as it used to be in the olden days BI(before internet).
Interested?

I use reason, ableton live, mach 5, and motu symphonic instrument for my industrial music, and reason has to be one of the best sequencers Ive used.
I just figured Id mention the fact that I LOVE reason lol... I'm such a geek...

Chris: I'm pretty happy Reason turned out to be quite a powerful program, but I'm still getting to know all the things it can do. Getting up and running will likely keep me busy for a bit. But if you've done any songs on it, I'd like to hear them sometime. Might give me an idea what someone that's familiar with it can do. Question: Which version do you use at the moment?
Cub: Did you ever get my email or do I need to send it again, this time to the MS approved address?

Programs like Reason remind me why I've done nothing in the realm of electronic creative development beyond a word processor. I'm far too poor to afford their five hundred dollar price tags.

Vracar: There's a little app called Rebirth that was sort of the forerunner to Reason. Mostly used for Dance/Techno, but it excelled at that. Runs well on fairly ancient computers, too, say a Pentium 2 @233MHz with 64 MB and the minimum SysReqs are even lower than that. (I've seen computers of this vintage at the goodwill stores every now and then for practically pennies). The best part about it is that it's been discontinued and is now available for free at http://www.rebirthmuseum.com. It's a pretty hefty download (200MB+ CD image), but I think it's worth it for a professional program that used to cost around $179 American. At the least you can download a bunch of user songs, hook up your stereo to your computer = instant Rave. There's more free music stuff out there as well, if you want to get deeper into the 'realm of electronic creative development'. (I kind of like that expression, actually; very apt)

I'll try and put up a less depressing song for you tomorrow when I get back to the studio on Thursday
if your going ot get reason, dont skimp on 2.5, get 3.0, the combinator and the mastering suite are incredible, and the new patch browser makes life alot easier.

Cub: Got your email and sent a reply. In the meantime check out ReBirth with Cubase and ReWire (if you have the time or the inclination after juggling DATs)
Chris: Thanks. I'll check it out next time I get a good connection. Question: NFR means Not For Resale, right? Was that a pretty good deal? They gave me a discount as a registered ReBirth user. You know the kind: the one that was upset to find out Rebirth was going to be given away after having paid for it. Not complaining too loudly though; I got Reason 3 for the original ReBirth price (I'd never sprung for it at $499), Propellerheads got another customer, and everybody on the web can get their hands on ReBirth now. It's sort of a win-win-win situation. Kind of nice of them to make the software available for free after deciding they were done with it. Maybe a few more software companies should follow their example...
Jerry Dan: To continue the analogy, one could point out that after one obtained Reason, the next thing would be making industrial music...

Yea, NFR is Not for Resale, when I got my C Level software certification they gave a copy of that and Mach 5, then I won MOTU symphonic instrument a few days later, and got dj recording certification and they gave me ableton live (the choice was reason, which I had, or ableton)... So I had a lucky strak going, then I quit and got a better paying job.. lol I made out like a bandit

Geez, the Frank Grimes' of the world will absolutely hate you. Way to go, though. Nice to see that good things still happen to good people. Takes a big bite out of the old cynicism...are you sure you're still a Tex fan?
