The 11th Doctor's costume revealed!

Ok, this looks as though it's the costume:

The image comes from BBC News at this source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8158556.stm

How ironic is it though, the younger the Doctor looks, the older the clothing and vice versa ahahaha

I like the look though. If you take the costume into account along with the rumour of having the Doctor's facial image being incorporated into the opening titles, perhaps the Moff wants to inject some flavour from the classic series.

Although, I do recall in an interview where he stated that for the 11th Doctor, he wanted someone who was 900 years old, part school boy, part action hero and part boffin. It works so far, but the costume still doesn't hide the youth of Smith. In a funny sort of way, he looks a little like Sean Connery's Henry Jones.

I may regret this, but, what is The 11th Doctor?

It's from a british sci-fi tv-series called 'Doctor Who', which is, basically, about a 900-ish year old alien from the planet Gallifrey who looks very much like a human who travels through time and space in his blue policebox. It's called a TARDIS (it stands for Time And Relative Dimension In Space), which originally could disguise itself to look like anything, but some circuits fried and it's stuck in the shape of a 1960's british policebox... Aaaanyway.

The show started in 1963, and every time the doctor receives a mortal wound or is about to die from something or other (to wit: an actor quits the role), his species will regenerate him to a younger version, changing his appearance, voice and manner. To this day 10 other people have had the role of "The Doctor". We're headed for the 11th Doctor now, it seems.

I watched some of it as a kid, I believe it was the Tom Baker stuff. The guy with the absurd scarf in any case. Started to watch the new stuff when Chris Eccleston took the reins, and have enjoyed David Tennant's run, especially the episodes by Steven Moffat. My favorite so far remains "Blink".

That's the one, and since the beginning it's been said that he can only regenerate one more time, so we're possibly looking at the second to last ever doctor (though maybe they'll find a way round it).

It's also the longest running sci fi show ever. I think at one point star trek crept ahead before they resurrected it in the last few years. I think Gene Roddenberry admitted being a fan.

Actually he can regenerate 12 times which means 13 lives total, so that's 2 more after Matt Smith. However, if the show is still successful at the end of the 13th Doctor's run I'm sure the BBC won't want to get rid of a ratings winner! Doctor Who has always been very good at ignoring inconvenient details from old episodes

OK, I'm on board now. I used to watch the old episodes of Doctor Who way back.....nevermind. Anyway, at least I understand what of who is the 11th Doctor. Thanks, Fred.

Apparently, in the 90 minute telemovie, The Five Doctors, it was made apparent that the lifespan of a timelord can be renewed in the Tomb of Rassilon. I haven't seen this episode since I was about 9 years old, so I remember squat about it. I'll have to pick up a copy of the DVD, but, it has been suggested in the past that the Doctor's life doesn't necessarily end after his 13th regeneration.

Come on, we're talking about a show where a 900 year old alien who looks human travels in a time machine that is 100 times larger on the inside as it is on the outside. I'm sure they'll get around it ;)

The Master was on his last regeneration when we first met him and he's had all sorts happen to him since, so I'm sure they will find a way.

Also in the last series, David Tennant had a daughter regenerated from his arm when some dna was taken. At the end of that episode she died and regenerated, so maybe there will be a female doctor after all.

I remember that episode, The Doctor's Daughter. I don't think she's a full blooded Gallifreyan though. Remember, she didn't actually regenerate, her body just healed the wound created by the bullet. Kind of like when David's Doctor's arm was amputated by the sword but then grew it back as he was still going through his regeneration cycle.

In the case of Jenny, while she might not be a Time Lord as such, she still had enough of the blood in her to be going through the "regeneration cycle" in the sense that she could self-heal. If she is to come back, I imagine she would be as defeatable as a human with the exception of some added abilities.

This is a spooky coincidence. I just read that the actress who played the Doctor's daughter Jenny is Georgia Moffett and apparently she's the daughter of Peter Davison and Sandra Dickinson. Apparently she really is the Doctor's daughter.
