Tex Murphy-ish games.
FMV games were not all atrocious, that we already know; but the Tex games weren't the only ones out there that were worth playing.
What did you guys think of other, maybe lesser known, FMV type games of the mid, late nineties?
Like:
1. Black Dahlia (I personally can't get the damn thing to run on XP without crashing every few minutes)
2. Dark Side of the Moon (runs on XP without dialogue choices).
Anybody play these?
Incidentally, they were both mysteries with solid story lines.

I'm definitely a fan of Black Dahlia. The story line is solid and very intriguing, and sadly overlooked among the FMV community. The FMV Take 2 released before BD was Ripper, and was an alright game starring Christopher Walken and Karen Allen, though I didn't think it was as good as BD.
I tried playing Dark Side of the Moon years ago, but gave up due to the invisible dialogue choices. I just wasn't able to work with it. Unfortunately, because the game (of what I could see) truly looked interesting.

I had many games that were FMV... It pretty much got to a point for awhile that if it wasn't FMV I didn't really want to play it...
Must be the fact that it has real people in it that just make you feel like you're really in the game...
I remember playing Wing Commander III... When that cut scene came up where they killed the main character's girl, I genuinely felt upset and pissed and wanted revenge against those damn cats...

i have mastered the black dahlia under xp, set win95 compat for installation & then untick to play. This stops the cursor trails on the screen. Also you need to the affinity for one processor only.
image.cfg patch file installed sets this for you
setup virtual drives for the cd's. Unlike pandora the game progresses along from each disk so there is not a lot of disk swapping.
I found a post on a site which fixes the spinning around under xp. Works like a dream now.
anyone want the changes to the ini file let me know.

Those were two games I had the worst of luck with. When I was a kid, I spent two months each saving up for those games and buying the last copy on the shelves, only to get home to discover that the discs had file corruptions and couldn't install. What are the odds? I just traded them in for another game, hopefully they'll be available on GOG soon.jcarnby wrote:I'm definitely a fan of Black Dahlia. I'd love to play Black Dahlia. I own it and I've tried all I can think of to run it, but can only get it to run for a few minutes before crashing. I've tried it on a few different XP and Vista PCs with the same result.
I tried turning off the compatability and playing around with the config file. Nothing works.
It bugs the hell out of me because I've wanted to play this game for years now. Do I have to buy an old PC to finally experience this game? Come on. There's gotta be a way.

I'm sure I could get my hands on it sooner or later at some point... I'm not trying to play it any time soon... I have a huge list of games I'd like to play, not sure when I'll be able to get around to them...
