DISTRICT 9! This movie is so good it deserves its own thread
Star Trek and Watchmen had their own, and i thought this one should too.
The best film I have seen since the Dark Knight and Drag Me To Hell.
This movie is just downright amazing, from the acting, to the effects, to the story.
It is definitely a movie that everyone on the board should see, except young kids.
Extremely violent.
Anyone who has seen it, what are your thoughts?

I've only seen the previews, looks very good and I plan on seeing it myself... Just not sure when...

It was pretty awesome. The actual narrative wasn't exactly as interesting as it's presentation, though, as I'm pretty sure the high and mighty man that's forced to step in the shoes of those he abuses might be cliche by now. That said, the documentary style combined with the effort to make the aliens actual characters, as opposed to evil looking things that have the immense desire to blow up the white house, provides a very unique spin on the genre. Plus, with Peter Jackson backing it up, everything looks spectacular.

Speaking of Alien movies/shows... They are going to be bringing that show "V" back... Anyone hear about this??? I've heard the bare minimum, just that it's coming back... I haven't searched it online or anything, just took a quick look at it on IMDB and sure enough it is in production...

Yea... just looked it up on imdb. Scott Wolfe is going to be in it..
Weird thing is, in his promo pics, he looks like Michael J Fox. I actually thought it was him at first... I thought... "He's coming back to TV??? Awesome.... then realized and was like.... oh.
Concerning District 9..... is it just me, or do the aliens kind of look like the Vortigaunts from Half-Life 2?

They don't show them a whole lot in the previews... And never played Half-Life...
But in the pictures they have on IMDB, I really like the Target Sheet they have of the Alien... I wonder if they'll be available in stores...
The Aliens look a little bit like the Radiation Suits from Fallout...
And my apologies about the comments of "V", I wasn't trying to hijack the thread...

Gotcha, yeah there is more resemblance from them than Fallout, I agree... And like you said, all I have to go on are the limited pics for the movie... Which I plan to do, just not sure when...

You guys should like this
It is called Alive in Joburg
This was made by Neil Blomkamp a few years ago.
When plans to make the Halo movie went to hell, he decided to make a movie based on this short 6 and a half min short film.
So District 9 was born.
You can watch this even if you haven't seen the movie. It doesn't spoil anything and you get a basic idea of the setting.
This short is amazing for having no budget at all.

So I thought it was ok. A nice twist on the genre, but there were some inconsistancies that bugged me to no end....my spolierific take......
If it took 20 yrs to accumiliate enough of the "liquid" to power the little ship, and a sizeable amount was "blown" on the hero, there shouldn't have been enough left to be effective.
Second, the "fluid" transmorgifies (for lack of a better term) and is a power up fuel to boot? Come on now, the story could go a little better than that.
Along with the rapid turnaround from "I can fix you" to the 3 yrs timeline? Why couldn't he take him aboard the mother ship and treat him there, in transit?
And I found it a bit insulting to have most of the "prawns" animalistic and base natured, and only a select few of sharp intellect. The whole parallel of the story of the unwanteds, be it alien or another race, smacks of propaganda in this worlds shameful past, and making most of the prawns id centric instead of ego or even superego centric was I think fostering and revisiting those old inferior/master race ideals.
Am I looking to deeply???
That aside, I blame Peter Jackson directly for the NEVERENDING battle/chase/shoot em up scenes. King Kong had similar frenetic pacing, and it made the movie less enjoyable (imho). I was fine for about the 1st half, and then it just ran away in a massive action movie fest. Which I think did it a diservice.
I did like the documentary style, and the the poor guy made his transformation believable, I know I would spew about the same number of f bombs for sure.
I give it 3 out of 5 maybe.
