The Waters of Mars

Whoa just watched this Doctor Who episode. I'm so jealous those in the UK have already seen these last three episodes with David Tennant. It's breaking my heart to watch him go. I think my favorite is still Peter Davison (you never forget your first Doctor), but David is definitely a close second.

I was kinda shocked by the ending of this episode. Yes the Doctor never had any problems breaking the rules before but there was always a line he wouldn't cross. I guess it feels like he's got nothing to loose. Which I don't really understand. But I've never seen the Doctor so upset about the prospect of regenerating. The Doctor actually talks about dieing which isn't what is going to really happen. He knows he's still got a couple more regenerations left but for some reason he acts like it's the end. I don't get it.

In the past, regenerations usually came as surprises because it was an injury the Doctor didn't see coming. The last time we had foreshadowing of his death was when the Watcher kept following Tom Baker around on Earth. But even that wasn't nearly as morbid as waiting for 4 knocks.

I think it's all about the Doctor knowing his time is up soon and he's trying to find a way to avoid it. In these episodes it seems he can't avoid fate, and even when he tries, he's creating something else, something that shouldn't be.

When do you get to watch the final two episodes? We get to see the first on Christmas Day and the finale on New Year's Day, and from what I've read so far it's looking to be really good.

Wow so you guys didn't get to see it before us? I'm watching it on BBC America and had assumed we got it on a delay from you guys. I also got to see David Tennant's appearance on the Graham Norton show. That was so funny.

Maybe it's because the Doctor knows his entire life is nearing the end not just his current body. He is technically supposed to be running out of regenerations. I guess in the end everybody fears death. Seems kinda odd since as a Time Lord he of all people should know you can't beat Time.

I saw this when it was on the ABC a couple of weeks back. WOW. Spooky stuff. The Doctor is now the villain and actually has got to a point where he needs to be killed. I've never seen Doctor Who like this. Tennant's brilliance really resonated here, especially in the final 15 minutes. It also raises a whole stack of questions about Earth's events.

How do we know that the crew weren't actually meant to live? Think of it this way: the Doctor travels to a time period, simply reads the article on the death of the Bowie Space Station members and perceives their deaths as unfortunate. Yet, in reality, it was his misinterpretation of the articles that drove him to act in the way he did and became the actual cause of death. This was something that was vaguely alluded to in the Pompeii episode.

This was so good. I loved it. If I were to do an edit to the episode: remove the dalek. Other than that, bloody good! The make-up, CGI, soundtrack, performances. I can't wait and totally satisfied I stayed spoiler free.
It was on our screens over here about a month ago, though I suspect the final two episodes will be on the same days in the States as well. I just hope the next doctor lives up to it all. New writer too will make it a very different Dr Who.

I think a new writer and a new Doctor at the same time sounds a little scary. I hope I can get used to this new guy. I love the premise of show that we must always embrace change but it's always so traumatic for the fans when they make the switch.

Well, the Producer for the new series has already made his mark with the new series of Doctor Who by writing Blink, an episode I consider to be a series highlight. So i'm sure it's in safe hands.
Oh yeah I remember Blink. That episode gave me nightmares with those angle statues moving closer and closer.

Hey did you guys see David Tennant's appearance on the Graham Norton show? I thought it was hilarious when Graham asked if he hoped that the show would bomb after he left.
