The End of Time Part Two

Such a surprising twist at the end!

Don't want to spoil it for others, but such a shame to see David Tennant go.
David
Argh. I'm not going to get to see it till tomorrow. I'll definitely want to talk all about the ending this weekend.

It's the last episode of Doctor Who with David Tenant. They are planning to make the switch to the 11th Doctor after this. They are ending his time with 3 episodes so the new year will bring a new Doctor Who.

There was also Planet of the Dead which came before The Waters of Mars.

Seen it yet? Seen how it all ends?
David
Yeah saw it all last night.

It didn't seem to make much sense to me. Who is the mystery woman? At first since she was dressed all in white I had thought maybe a reincarnation of the White Guardian perhaps. The Doctor obviously knows her.

I did think Timothy Dalton did a great job as the Time Lord President but was shocked at how evil the Time Lords had become. The only thing that troubled me was the Doctor called him Rassilon. That's an old Time Lord from legend who was long gone even during the 80s. Did they just resurrect him to lead them during the Time War because they needed someone bloodthirsty and ruthless?

The drumbeat idea to make the Master mad was okay but of course this had never been mentioned before in past series. Seems kinda too convenient a plot device for bringing back the Time Lords and for all that hype seemed a little too easy to send them back.

But yes it was kinda sad who the harbinger of the Doctor's death turned out to be. But as we all know given the choice the Doctor will always choose to save somebody else's life before his own.

I've got to admit I didn't enjoy the long lingering death. Usually it's a quick unexpected death for us. I'm surprised I wasn't crying at the end despite his truly heartfelt performance. I think it's because we've seen this death coming for so long we've had adequate time to prepare.

It was nice to see all our old friends. I wonder if we are going to start fresh and not see them any more in the new season.

I'll miss David Tenant. He's a spectacular actor. I think he's what put Doctor Who back on the map.

Whilst it wasn't said, I think the woman was supposed to be his mother.

The Master's drumbeat was in series 3 or whichever one John Simm was in previously - there was a drumbeat of four, though possibly in a different rhythm. I must admit though it was a shame to suggest that all the timelords are still floating about sitting in a bubble somewhere, so the Doctor isn't the real last of the timelords, but I'm sure they'll sort that out in time.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds - Russell T Davis, the series creator has also left, so all the goodbyes were partly because of that too I think. I suspect we won't see the others returning - or at least anytime soon. The new series will bring all sorts of new people and adventures - we'll have to see
David
Yes I've heard various people on the web theorize that the woman was his mother. That would be interesting story idea. I hope we get to come back to find out more details about the Time Lords and the Time War idea.

I meant in the old series when the Master was played by Roger Delgado or Anthony Ainley there was no mention of the drumbeat noise in his head. In the past, the Master was just plain evil because he had a thirst for power and did every thing he could to extend his life at the cost of others.

I'm greatly saddened by story of the end of the Time Lords. I always enjoyed the legends about how brilliant and powerful they were. I hope we can someday save/redeem them in the future.

It's true you can never say never about seeing old companions again. Did you ever see "The Five Doctors"? That was a great episode that not only brought back old Doctors but old companions too. I've loved this old show for a long time. The new restart has been a joy to watch.

Oh I do have another question. According to Doctor Who lore, a Time Lord gets 12 regenerations.

In Stolen Earth/Journey's End, the Doctor managed to use regeneration energy to heal himself instead of changing himself. Was this a spent regeneration?

If so, then that means we get one more regeneration after Matt Smith. If not, then we get two more after Matt.

They play Doctor Who and it's spinoff series Torchwood on BBC America. I've got Comcast and I don't think it's part of the regular cable package. It's extra.

I got Verizon Fios back in November when if finally became available in my neighborhood... I've basically got the best package they had... I'll have to look for that Channel, I barely know where the Local Channels and Movie Channels are right now... It's a Massive difference from Direct TV... Going to take a while to get use to the new channels...

I was use to HBO being in the 500s, now they are in the 800s and 900s...

Matt Smith is officially the eleventh doctor, so there is one more after him.

but having said that, when we met the master he was on his eleventh regeneration and was so near to death that he turned bad to try and cheat the death that was waiting for him. But he's died and returned quite a few more times since then so we'll have to wait and see. He didn't die in this last episode so he might be in the next series.

I know one rumour that went round was that David Tenant's last episode was going to feature every time lord before him (even the dead ones!) but maybe that's something that will feature in a future episode, or was one left on the drawing board.

New series starts in the spring.
