Remakes (Karate Kid), Sequels (Ghostbusters III) and Reboots

So they are remaking the Karate Kid..... why?
And why did they give it an urban African American Feel??
I think it will be slightly entertaining but not as good as the original.

And, case some of you didn't know, they are making Ghostbusters 3.

I am really excited for this one as Ivan Reitman is on to direct again and the script is being written by the creators of The Office.

Also, the entire cast is set to come back with only Ernie Hudson not yet confirmed.

Even Rick Moranis says he is willing to come out of retirement to reprise his role as Louis Tully.
Sigourney Weaver is back too.

I hope they don't ruin this film... this has to be one of the longest awaited sequels ever... 22yrs. That even beats Indiana Jones, which was 19 yrs.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the news =) I am sure Joel will love this =P

Last..... what the heck are they doing with Spider-Man.... a reboot????????
Already???? common!!! Raimi leaves so they just restart the series???
Does anyone else think this is retarded?
Matt
Actually I never really expected a GB 3, so as far as I'm concerned it's not really an "awaited" film... Don't get me wrong, ever since I heard about it a few months back, yeah I'm excited to see it... It's also great that it is the original cast and not some poor attempt at a remake...

Man I wish my daddy had been a big time rapper and movie star... In my opinion Jaden Smith has no acting ability as of yet... Maybe he will as he grows up... To use him as this new Karate Kid, I don't think this movie is going to do very well...
I don't really see how anyone can call it a Remake though... I mean the characters names aren't the same and like Lestat said they are giving it an African/American twist... No need to call it a Remake, should have went with Karate-Kid, The New Generation or something like that... I got a feeling this movie is going to top the Razzie Awards when it comes out...

I'm not following with the Spider Man thing... You're gonna have to explain a little bit on this one, I haven't heard anything about Spider Man 4... So many other Superhero movies they could do, made no sense to go so long with just this one...
I looked it up on IMDB, but it didn't really have any info there... I did notice that Tobey Maquire wasn't listed in the Cast, but that might just be because it is still a ways from being made...

I'm still waiting for the Wonder Woman Movie to be made...

I know that they had a script ready for years on this and Dan Ackroyd said that the recent game was effectively the third movie (not played it though). I do hope that whatever it is, it's better than GB2. The first one was brilliant and you know it will be comedy genius.

I also heard him say ages ago that it might end with four women ghostbusters to take over from the old guys. Who knows, but I just hope that with Dan Ackroyd and Bill Murray that it's a hit. I hope Ivan Reitman has a big say in the script too, as he wrote the first one (and the second?).

And I really hope that the music is good. The music for the second one was very 80s.

Here's hoping
David
Actually Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis wrote both the first and the second... They were both Directed by Ivan Reitman though... He may have had a hand in some suggestions, but writing credits go to Aykroyd and Ramis...

That's according to IMDB, they could be wrong...

Also according to IMDB the writers for the 3rd are Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky... Reitman is listed as the Director though, so there's some hope there...
Anne Potts is rumored to be coming back as well... Ernie Hudson is listed as a character, it doesn't say Rumored next to his name...

The latest news about Spiderman 4 is that Directory Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire will not be working on it. I think they said it was a scheduling conflict.

So Sony decided to do a reboot for the next Spiderman movie and recast cast and crew. Which of course will probably mean the next movie will totally suck and not be worth watching.

I think the script for the Ghostbusters video game followed the general idea of what Akroyd had in mind for the original third movie....

He wanted to have the Ghostbusters in an alternate hell version of New York, which was accomplished with the game. The script was rewritten, though, by someone else for the game so that in fit better in a game format.

This new movie is to be set years and years later.... obviously due to the age of the actors now.
Although, I don't know what they have in mind. There is a rumour started by Sigourney Weaver that Bill Murray may be playing a ghost... but I don't think he is going to be dead in the movie necessarily.... must be some plot twist, or maybe he is playing two characters... who knows.

I think it would be cool if the soundtrack had an 80s feel to it.

Also, as far as the Spider-Man Reboot.... I think it will bomb too..... unless they find a Peter Parker that better suits the role than Tobey McGuire did. I still think it is too soon for a reboot though. Spider-Man 3 would have been cool if Venom was not in it.... I heard he was forced to be in it and it ruined the movie. They didn't develop the character enough and then killed him off. If he was in it, it should have been a movie with just him in it and he shouldn't have died at the end. They could have then continued it into the Maximum Carnage ark. Spider-Man 2 is still classic though.
Matt
Yeah I agree Spiderman 3 was not that great. They overloaded that movie with too many villians. What with The Sandman, Venom, and Green Goblin there was very little Spidey Time. Isn't one villian good enough? It was too many people all at once vying for limited screen time.

I agree #2 was awesome with Doctor Octopus. Fantastic performances all around. I thought reboots were generally once per generation. I agree it's way too soon. Would much rather see Wonder Woman or Green Lantern.

BTW did anybody else see "Big Bang Theory's" episode about the Green Lantern? It was hilarious.

Well what they could end up doing is have Spider Man always in suit and you don't get to see the human side... Rewrite it to where Spider Man has some issues and won't take the suit off...
That would solve the issue about it not being the original Peter that everyone has come to know and some love...

I just don't see why they can't wait until Maquire is available... Unless there was more to it than simple Scheduling...

Raimie was not happy with the script.

He told Sony he couldn't deliver for their expected release date because he wanted to have the script redone....

He must have thought it was total garbage...

They wanted to keep the date so he left.
Because he left, McGuire left along with the rest of the cast.

I always thought Jake Gyllenhaal could have been a good spider-man.

Oh well.
Matt
The director objected to the fact that Sony wanted newer villains in it and wanted to keep the type of villains that were in the original 60s comics. Because Sony insisted he walked. He didn't want Venom or the other one in Spiderman 3 but gave in to insistence. While it did well at the box office, it wasn't acclaimed by the critics because of the baddies and apparently he took that badly, even though it wasn't his choice.
David
Sandman is an old villain I thought.

I thought he just objected to venom.

Uhhhh...how did you know? ahahahah - STALKER!

Karate Kid - Honestly, I was never a fan of the original so my reaction is "meh".

Ghostbusters 3- i've always wanted this but a lot of reports over the last two years have kind of given me second thoughts. There's a fair bit that's uncertain. Is it a CGI film? Is it a Ghostbusters re-launch with a new line-up with some cameos from the original crew? Personally, i'm really only open to GB3 with the original lineup. I know that sounds closed minded, but to me, with the exception of Flimation's Ghostbusters, they were the Ghostbusters. Also, after seeing Dan Akroyd's treatment of the Blues Brother's sequel, i'm skeptical. But I have been surprised before with some things such as Casinio Royale and Star Trek. For me to try and accept a new GB lineup will be hard. Personally, I don't see why you could not do a full fledged live-action GB film with the aged original crew. There are so many opportunities for humour there! Bad backs, heavy proton packs, grey hair, the old has-beens having one last crack at defeating evil - bring it on!
Yeah I don't know. We were all interested in seeing Indiana Jones again and then when that movie came out it was a dud. It tainted my pleasant memories of the old series.

I fear the new Ghostbusters will leave me feeling the same. But I guess my curiosity will get the better of me and I'll see it anyway.

I just saw the preview for the Karate Kid in the theater. It looked okay I might check it out since I'm a big Jackie Chan fan. However I just saw "Spy Next Door" and didn't think very much of that movie.

Where's the rumor that it isn't going to be the original crew for Ghostbusters 3??? As far as I've heard and read it will be the original guys and they will be aged...

But the fact that Aykroyd and Ramis aren't the writers like they were for the other 2 films, I'm not so sure it will have a Ghostbusters feel to it...

But only time will tell... To my knowledge that haven't even started work on it, it may very well get canceled completely...

Personally, I wouldn't go that far. I actually enjoyed the latest IJ film because after I saw the trailer, I expected to see a fan action/adventure that didn't carry itself too seriously. I knew not to expect the mystery and gloom of Raiders nor the brooding atmosphere of Temple. Hence, KOTCS delivered. However, it was also far from my favourite IJ film.

I don't have specific sources, but from all of the interviews i've read, they've indicated that GB3 is the old team handing over the baton to a younger generation of Ghostbusters. However, I hope that I have this very wrong as your idea does sound promising :)
