Assassin's Creed

Has anyone played this game made by Ubisoft? Doesn't sound like my type of game, but, I saw a novel by the same name and decided to buy it. I've read about 110 pages and I must say it is fairly interesting. Written by Oliver Bowden, it is the story of a young man who becomes an assassin to avenge his family's deaths. It says it's based on the game.
"If you look to me for illumination, you better have a flashlight!"
I purchased the game, but have yet to get around to playing it... But I do remember reading that there was a Novel published... I haven't read it though, I'm still working on the Kolbrin Bible... I have to say, I think you would enjoy this book Jim...

it looks like a shooting killing game, not my type of game

tex murphy is back in town
No shooting involved. More free-running, jumping from rooftops, that sort of thing. Oh, and swordfighting, I guess. You're an assassin, so yeah, killing some people are pretty high on the list of things to do, but they're so ridiculously evil you won't have any moral problems with it.

It is fairly well-made, and the ancient cities you visit are incredibly well-made and detailed. The first game of the series was so-so, the 2nd was actually quite good. I'm still not convinced they know what they're doing with the overall plot, but we'll see.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
I don't mind killing people if they are bad but don't like to do it very often. I prefer PC games over console games anyway.

I'm trying to remember how many times Tex actually killed somebody.

I remember he blew up Moon Child so that's a lot of people.
He killed the Chameleon with that cigarette.
Knocked the Black Arrow Killer off a roof.

Others got killed because of him be he didn't do it himself. Help me out here everybody my brain's a little fuzzy with the death toll.

Well, there were over a thousand people on the Moonchild, including Lowell Percival. I'm fairly certain Thomas Dangerfield didn't survive that thing on Mars. J. Saint Gideon got fairly depressed by Tex's actions. The Chameleon got poisoned. Reagan Madsen and Jackson Cross definitely didn't make it. Dag Horton took a tumble off the roof. Those two guys who shot Thomas Malloy probably didn't have their asbestos undies on, so they're toast. And then there's the countless mooks you plow through in Mean Streets.

So yeah. Quite a bodycount. Did I miss anyone?

I didn't like the first game but was in the middle of the sequel when my PS3 died. It's recreation of middle ages Italian cities was quite impressive, the free running and climbing was great, and the story had a nice emotional hook (i imagine the sequel is what the book is based off. Is the main character's name Ezio Jim?)

Sure is, AV, and he learns to be quite the assassin.

I'm not into action games as I have enough difficulty with PC adventure games. So, I will not be playing it anytime in this life. But, the book is pretty good. If anyone wants to read it when I am finished, let me know.

Except for the smoking and drinking, I get the impression Tex is, deep down, a fairly moral character and blood-spilling is not a favorite thing for him to do. Still, saving the world on multiple occassions requires some sacrafice and, let's be honest, better someone other than our hero.

BTW, accoring to the book, numerous people, including Lowell percival, escaped the Moon Child's destruction via escape pods. So the actual number who died may have been less the a thousand - maybe only 7 or 8 hundred. Only? Shhesh!

That's funny Jim. We both agree that Tex's biggest detractors are the smoking and the drinking. :) I think maybe I could learn to live with the drinking but the smoking is really terrible. I mean we know today how bad they are for you but somehow they survive into the future? Yeah I'd like to give Tex some nicotine patches.

Yeah I like it better when Tex just has to incapacitate people or lock people up. I really don't like to have to commit cold-blooded murder. Self-defense is one thing but 1st degree murder is a bit rough for Tex. But yes I know it's a rough world out there in the post-apocalyptic future.

Pretty cold Jim, only 7-8 hundred people. We don't even know if all those invited to the Moon Child were told about the plans to wipe out the Earth or not. They might have only thought they were starting a new colony away from the Earth. They might not have been as evil as Lowell Percival.
