Dcotor Who Journey
I was on Netflix one night and noticed the show Torchwood. I had recalled mentions of the show before and how it was excellent so I decided to check it out. Well I thought it was a badass show so I looked into it to realize that it was based in the Doctor Who universe. So I then started watching series one of the new Doctor Who. Loved it even more. I then downloaded a 100 gig file of series 10 to 26 of the original Doctor Who starting with the scarf dude. Brilliant! I love British television.

Yes Torchwood and the new Doctor Who are fantastic. I admit I didn't enjoy Season 1 with Christopher Eccleston, but David Tennant is brilliant. I'm an old fan of Doctor Who. John Barrowman is a wonderful (and really good-looking) leading man for Torchwood.
If you are interested in another British Sci-Fi series, might I suggest Red Dwarf. It's a ridiculous and silly story but the jokes are very irreverent. It's just stupid fun.
The newest Doctor Who will be airing in the US on April 17th. Check him out on BBC America.

The 'scarf dude' is Tom Baker, who also did the voiceover for Little Britain and is considered by many to be the best Dr Who (though most people say their favourite is the one they remember from when they were a child).
I think his 'best' one was a six parter called Genesis of the Daleks, or something similar. All about how Daleks came into being. Having watched it, it was an interesting ending (without wanting to give anything away!)
As for the rest, the new Dr Who starts here on Saturday. Hopefully it will be good, though I'm also expecting it to be very different to David Tenant.
When David Tenant was chosen to be The Doctor, he had just starred in a BBC3 program called Casanova, and was very good in it. At first many were skeptical as to whether he could be better than Christopher Eccleston, but I think David Tenant went on to do more shows than any other Doctor (just).
If you get the chance, watch 'Blink' from series 3 with David Tenant and Freema Agyman. And watch it in the dark. And try and remember that it's a kids show.
As for Torchwood, Children of Earth, the last series was brilliant.

That's me. Peter Davison was the first one I saw and I've been in love with him ever since.Demonlawyer wrote: (though most people say their favourite is the one they remember from when they were a child)
I enjoyed the "Key to Time" series and also thought Colin Bakers "Trial of a Time Lord" was very interesting. Don't know if I could pinpoint a 'best'. Doctor Who is such a long lived series with so many episodes.
'Blink' absolutely terrified me. I wanted to jump behind the couch it was so scary. Those weeping angels gave me nightmares.
Children of Earth made me cry. It was such a sad story.
DL, I'm so jealous you get to see Doctor Who so much sooner, but I guess I'll have to be patient. Otherwise I'd have to buy a plane ticket and go over to your place to see Matt Smith.

I personally never got into Torchwood. I tried the first four episodes and frankly the darker, more adult tone felt forced than it did genuine. The pacing and writing of Doctor Who just feels so much more organic than Torchwood. I'm a long term fan also as I began watching the show back in 1989 when I was 4, so I'm familiar with the older Doctors too.
I've actually been collecting the classic era DVDs and plan on getting them all so I can watch the series all the way through. This is something i've wanted to do since I was a child.
Of the latest series, my favourite is actually Eccleston. As brilliant as Tennant was, at times I felt his vivacious antics kind of stood in the way of being able to appreciate him. Whereas, with Eccleston, I was more compelled and convinced by him being both an alien and the survivor of a genocidal war.
But I must say, Waters Of Mars is my favourite episode of all time.
Speaking of new Who, here's some tid-bits from the next series:

I did notice the Radio Times cover, but haven't read the article - any good? There's another magazine out at the moment (I forget the name) with a 3d cover of Matt Smith using his sonic screwdriver pointing towards you - it looks really cool.
As for Torchwood, I haven't seen all of the first series, but I did hear that the first series wasn't as good as the second, I can't remember why. It just seemed to get better and better until the end.

'Blink' is my favorite episode of Doctor Who so far. Closely followed by the two-parter 'Silence in the Library' and 'Forest of the Damned'.
Same writer, so no big surprise. Glad to hear he took over the show in general, anxious to see how they pull off the 2010 version.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
Well the 2010 version is VERY different in a lot of ways - new credits, new theme music, new doctor - a very different show based on the same concept. I'm still a little undecided on the new show, but then again a lot of people needed time to be convinced by David Tenant's doctor. It was certainly a lot scarier than the David Tenant/Christopher Eccleston shows.

I know the transition periods are always so choppy. It always takes a while to get used to the new guy. I have to admit I rarely enjoy the following act but maybe he'll grow on me after a season. It's still two weeks away for me. Ah if only I had a time machine...

Love the new Doctor Who too. I started with Tom Baker originally and kind of lost interest until Chris Eccelston took over. Of course, David Tennant is the best doctor, though.
I never really got into Torchwood. I watched the first season but didn't really get hooked enough to continue. It certainly doesn't have the same tone as Doctor Who does.
FYI, Fox is planning to make an American version of Torchwood for a fall release. The series is being produced by Russell T. Davies as well.
I have watched the first episode of Doctor Who with Matt Smith (yes..you can see it in the US if you know where to look
)and was pleasantly surprised. He's not David Tennant but can hold his own as the Doctor. He just needs a few episodes to shed David Tennant's version much like David Tennant needed to shed Chris Eccelston's. With Steven Moffat at the helm, the show should do well. Some of the most favored episodes with David Tennant were written by him (ie. Blink, Doctor's Daughter, Silence in the Library, Forest of the Dead).
Also, the new companion is HOT. When she appeared in the police uniform, I was ready to be arrested.
I must agree about Red Dwarf. Wonderful show but you must appreciate British humor to like it. Although, I must admit the show lost a lot of it's appeal once they became prisoners in the last season.
Btw, about a year ago, I watched the first Doctor Who (in black and white) with William Hartnell. If you watch it, you will discover that George Lucas is a copy cat!!
The personality of Yoda is exactly the same as William Hartnell's Doctor Who. Yoda even looks like him in a lot of ways (other than size and skin color differences).
Ok...I guess you could say that Frank Oz was really the copycat since he created the look and personality of Yoda.
