Give it a listen
I thought I'd start a thread for people who would like to encourage other people to try new music.
However, one thing first:
Everybody's heard of the major artists. You know. The ones who spew out songs like "I Want You!" or "I Don't Want You Anymore!" or "Look At All My Goddamn Money!" or that good old-fashioned tune that everybody loves called "Mediocre Banality Sells Well".
So!
If you know of an artist or a band that actually makes music that maybe not everybody's heard about, let others know. Spread the word. You never know, you might make some people really happy.
To kick this off, I'll introduce you to Belle and Sebastian, a scottish indie pop band that formed around the mid-nineties, back when I was still in my teens. You might've heard of them, but from what I gather they're fairly in the background still. Which is a shame.
If you ever get a chance to pick up their album If You're Feeling Sinister, you would be doing your ears a favour.
However you could just go on youtube and search them up. If you do I recommend the title song off that album in the last paragraph, or a song called Get Me Away From Here, I'm Dying, another personal favorite of mine.
Enjoy, and keep the ball rolling!

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
I'll go along with this! Also, Fred, this is where youtube is handy. Here's a link to the song "Get Me Away From Here, I'm Dying." I give it a thumbs up.

My first contribution will be the band Global Communication. They had a song featured on the Grand Theft Auto 4 soundtrack, though I'm not sure how many people listened to Journey. Anyway, their genre is more of an ambient trance, a kind of music that flows through without having a beat to dance to (for people like me who don't dance, that's just fine).

I thought this song from the movie Juno was pretty nice. It had a simple folk song feel to it. I think Belle and Sebastian were also part of the soundtrack of this movie.

Ah, good stuff! Was hoping someone would join me in this little venture to spread some lesser-known music about!
Here's a goodie from Fred's goodiebag of old goodies. By which I mean I found this way back in the misc folder

Enjoy that one. It gets even better near the end when the violin kicks in. Now this is music!
Keep it coming folks!

Yes, I've heard of her. Kind of the american version of Lily Allen, I think. Except maybe that Lily Allen comes across as more of a misandrist.
What am I talking about? All female singers in their twenties come across as misandrists these days!
Aaaanyway!
Here's something from the homeland; buncha crazy norrwegians who call themselves Apoptygma Berzerk! Enjoy this timeless classic!

As a PS: If you're into coversongs, be sure and check out Apop's cover of Metallica's Fade To Black. It's... something else.

One of my favourite songs, Silent Jealousy by X Japan (if the visuals put you off, just have a listen to the music). They're Japanese 80s hair metal.

Fred thanks for teaching me a new word. I didn't know there was an antonym for misogynist. This board is so educational.Fred Buer wrote:What am I talking about? All female singers in their twenties come across as misandrists these days!
Oh how about Runaway Train by Soul Asylum? A friend recommended this song to me and I really enjoyed it.

Well, maybe not quite THAT old. I agree on both counts - the soundtrack was most excellent, but A Little Night Music is overplayed. Its too bad because he wrote a lot of really great music as well as four great operas (I'm a big opera fan).
"If you look to me for illumination, you better have a flashlight!"
Heh, well Jim, this is a thread for music that's not too well-known, but still played from the heart. Not the average run-of-the-mill garbage churned out by the hundreds every year that only spans sex, money and objectification of the opposite sex.
So feel free to post anything you'd like!

Whoa you were not kidding. That was some big and scary hair. I have to admit the video didn't make any sense to me.Atomicvegetable wrote:One of my favourite songs, Silent Jealousy by X Japan (if the visuals put you off, just have a listen to the music). They're Japanese 80s hair metal.

Thanks, Fredo. Ask and you shall receive.
While this may not be a new group, they are new to me. They're called Band of Horses. The song as I posted in another thread is: "I go to the barn because I like the." Anyone heard of this group?
