Independence Day Parts 2 & 3?

These two articles are pretty old, but I just discovered them right then. Since the 1996 film, Independence Day, a sequel to the film has been talked about, rumoured, drafted and then finally aborted. But it looks as though the chance of a sequel finally coming out of the ashes could be possible. Make that two!

Personally, I am more enthusiastic for this than I am a sequel to Ghostbusters or Avatar. You can say what you like about the corny, male dominated bravado dialogue of the first film, but I loved it. That's what made the film so much fun - it's pomp and grandiosity. I don't care about the massive plot holes or the fact that America leads the initiative to save the world - someone had to do it! I love this film for the fact that it never tried to be more than an epic, fun, action packed sci-fi adventure that you didn't think too hard about. Unlike other movies of this type such as Transformers or the Fast and Furious , this film was done with some class and nobility.

And just to finish:

I'm not sure how they will make a sequel to a story that seemed to end with a certain finality, but I too would be interested in watching it/them.

The first one was a rockin' rollin' romp with some cheesy dialogue that I really enjoyed. Fast moving and fun loving you soon get caught up in the good vs. evil and the extent which people will go to win at all costs. Great movie.

Yeah I'm with Jim on that... They clearly said that their ENTIRE Civilization moved from planet to planet sucking up the resources... So if their Entire Civilization was there and they Blew them all up, how could there be a Sequel???

This movie was just plain fun =)

Although, I am still more excited for The Hobbit and a sequel to Ghostbusters.

Oh yes the Hobbit, I can't wait for the Hobbit... I can't wait to see Ron Perlman as a Dwarf... He is gonna play Thorn to a Tee I can just see it... At least I'm pretty sure that is the part he will be playing...

I think the sequel will involve the Will Smith character retiring from the Air Force and managing a baseball team of inner city youths.

Doesn't exactly scream "Action Film Of The Year", but I could see it --- --- --- On the Hallmark Channel...

As naive as it sounds, i'm sure the writers have held off for the last 15 years so the finest ideas can be salvaged. At the moment it's just heavy gossip so it's nothing substantial, but it has potential, especially with the technology we have today. I'll be following this one very closely.

I can't help it. I despise Roland Emmerich's directing.

Like, with a passion!

I always thought Ron Perlman would make a good Beorn, but he would work really well as Thorin too.

He would make a good Beorn, but the character just isn't a main character and I don't think Ron Perlman would do it... I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that if he agreed to it that he'll be playing Thorin, the head Dwarf...

Ron Perlman is kind of a glory hound and I just don't seem him taking anything less than a lead or co-lead role...

I wonder if they'll figure out a way to work Tom Bombadil into The Hobbit, since they omitted him from the Trilogy...

I wouldn't want them to.... he isn't in the hobbit and doesn't really play a part, even in the events that are going on at the same time as the hobbit.

No, but his part didn't really have anything to do with LOTR either, so they could still stick him in there as one of the places they stop to camp for the night, same as it was in LOTR originally...

Doesn't have to be anything big or important... After all they are making it a 2 part movie, which is really kewl, I do want them to take their time with it... I have a feeling that the first one will end once Bilbo has gotten the Ring, just as he leaves the Goblin's caves to rejoin the others is when I think the first part will end...

What are your guesses??? Of course this is only for those who have read the book... lol

You know what, that would be a good place to end it.

And the second would start when they reach Beorn's house.

I don't think there is a better spot for that.
I thought maybe when they reach Lake Town, but then there isn't enough story left to make another movie.. unless they really extend the stuff going on with the Necromancer/Sauron at that part.
