It still lives!

Good news. A while back my external hard drive failed to register with my computer. I assumed it was dead and useless and set it aside. I went on with my life and eventually bought a new My Book external hard drive and all was well.

Yesterday I bought a new hard drive and wanted to format it. I decided to take out my old external hard drive enclosure and swap out disks and plug it into my computer for formatting. To my shock the computer didn't register the new hard drive. Turns out my external hard drive enclosure was bad.

I went out and bought a new hard drive enclosure. For kicks I put in my old hard drive that I thought was dead into the new enclosure. I plugged it into the computer and there were all my old files. What a shocker.

I had no idea hard drive enclosures could die. Their circuitry looks so simple. It's basically a box with a small circuit board.

My lost data was never lost after all.

It was all my old stuff. Pictures, music files, school work, etc.. Luckily I had 2 backups of my stuff so the loss was not that great but still it's nice to know I've still got a functioning hard drive.

great news sam,
the other day I plugged in my 250gb usb drive & windows said there was nothing on it & I thought "it's gone again" well before I did a reformat I checked it with disk management in windows & found it had lost the drive letter allocation. Reassigned a drive letter & there it was all the info. So some times it's not lost.
