For a more "shooter-oriented" game, Mafia 1 actually had a good story line. I felt more compassion and drawn into the story because Tom Angelo actually had a conscience, and ended up entangled in the mafia by trying to make ends meet during the Depression. I would have been turned off if it had merely been a shooting game for the sake of violence.
I'm looking forward to Mafia II. I loved the environment of the first one and especially just driving around checking out the retro cars and listening to the music. I felt sad when I found out Mafia I doesn't work in Windows Vista. Now I'm just hoping my new computer is new enough to handle Mafia II.

This looks like it will be pretty good...
I have to agree though, I still can't believe some of the games they fund and Chris & Aaron can't get anyone to back a new Tex Murphy game...

Mafia had a really good story, and one of the best endings written for a game, all genres included. Nothing to do with GTA or Saints Row, which are pure drive and gunners. Mafia 2 is looking to have a solid story too, and the era is just pure fun.
My only complaint is that you drive too much around town all the time to get from a point to another, especially when you have to go back and forth two or three times for the same mission. The objectives themselves though were extremely varied, never one mission like the other, unlike most, if not all, pure shooters. The settings were also quite different from mission to mission.
Highly recommend giving the first one a try, and I'm getting Mafia 2 for sure.

Easy there plumgas... I would go so far as saying that Mafia I was probably the best game I played since Tex Murphy!plumgas wrote:how come they can get funding to put out this $#it & we are still waiting for another tex murphy with a real decent story.
CANT WAIT for MAFIA 2... will need to upgrade my video card though. Which is a tough decision becuase I am thinking of getting an Nvidia Quadro FX4800 to help with my video editing, and despite being a $2,500 video card, it can't play games very well at all being a workstation card. On the other hand the top end gaming card can't do workstation work at all. Tough, tough choice!!

+ 1. Mafia is one of my favourites of all time. I remember when I got it for Christmas along with Grand Theft Auto 3. I played through Mafia before GTA 3 and did so obsessively with extremely long late-night sessions (as I was on school holidays). When the time to play GTA 3 came, I couldn't have been any more underwhelmed by it.Cubase wrote:Easy there plumgas... Hahaha... or maybe just get the gaming card, play it, then sell it once I have had my fill of games. Who knows. That's the one annoying thing a bout PC games. You can be happy with the default settings (as you would be on consoles) but when they tease you with slightly better effects and resolution you go crazy trying to achieve them!sam10100 wrote:Cub, you know what that means. You'll need two computers. One for work and one for play.
