Black Dahlia
This must have been discussed before. There's a movie coming out soon called Black Dahlia. There used to be a game of the same name (actually, the same goes for Doom). Are they the same thing?
From memory, Black Dahlia was the last real interactive movie game and didn't do well. But if it did do well, could this be the future for a Tex movie, or even more interest in the interactive movie scene again?

Looks like they are based on the same true events. Elizabeth Short aka Black Dahlia was an aspiring actress. She was gruesomely murdered in Los Angeles in 1947. The murder was never solved. Several people actually confessed to the murder but none of their stories proved to be true. According to some there were occult overtones in the murder and as I understand, the computer game expands upon that.
Just try doing a search for "Black Dahlia" and you should find several sites on the subject.

The game is an original story, inspired by actual events. The book is based on James Ellroy's book by the same name. I don't know if the book is inspired by the same events, it sounds reasonable. In any case the book/movie and the game are most definitely completely different.
Edit: quite a good game in fact. Probably my FMV fav after Tex and Wing Commander.

Yeah, "Black Dahlia" was actually a case of some kind as Crowley said. I think I remember looking it up myself some years ago when I discovered that from playing the game or something.
So the film is probably just going off that case like the game seemed to do (albeit maybe loosely) rather than being the same. Plus as you say... the game has fallen into obscurity it seems and it wouldn't be lucrative to do something from it today as unfortunate as that is.
Its a BIG shame the Black Dahlia game isn't noticed more, it's a fantastic and intriguing game in my opinion. I loved it.
The game plays alot on the Nazis interest in mysticism items and so on. But there's other factors too. This review seems to go into the different things that inspired the story well:

The book, game, and movie are all inspired by the same real-life mystery slaying.
However, the PC game tied the Elizabeth Short murder into Nazi lore and the earlier Cleveland serial killer dubbed the Torso Killer, none of which has the least to do with the Short murder.
The game did a masterful job of tying them all together in a fictional story, but for the record it's just a story. A possible link was investigated, but the MO was just too different. Plus, while the Torso Killer may have had victims in the hundred range, the Short murder seemed to be an isolated incident.
God, is that the same movie that was in pre-production back in 2000? Crazy.

Could well be. Some movies are in pre-production for years. The longest I know is about 7 years. Leo DiCaprio was lined up for Romeo and Juliet when he was still in acting school , and there are some movies I can't remember which I know were in pre-prod for years. Sadly most of those movies weren't any good in the end.
Cheers for the news though.

Well, it's definately on my list of films to see... including the Halo film which is based on the popular Xbox game and is to be produced by Peter Jackson.
I went and saw the Doom film the other day... nothing really special but entertaining none the least. The first person sequence was particularly entertaining, as it also had the doom music playing lol!

The movie is based on the james ellroy book, which is VERY loosely based on the actual events. I've been waiting for this to come out for a while, because one of my fav actressess was supposed to play elizebeth short, unfortunatly she is not in the film now, and they have mark whalberg (sp?)
I read alot about this case a few years ago, and a greeat source for the true story is a book called severed by john gilmore. But be warned this book, unlike ellroys book, is NOT for the faint of heart. It contains autopsy and crime scene photos, these be be passed over as they are all in the middle of the book. also one chapter is the autopsy report.
still its a good read, I spent the whole time reading it thinking "how could ANYONE do that?"
ellorys book is great, although not true at all, its also a great read, and Im hoping the movie will be great as well, even without fairuza balk as miss short.

Seems to be a quite big budget project (said to be about $50-$60m).
Both should be in theaters somewhere midst 2006.

Hmm...Brian De Palma. He's awesome.
With the exception of Mission to Mars. Which sucked.
And apparantly he's doing a second Untouchables movies. Nothing original in Hollywood, I tell ya.
