Heres a little bit of information our government boys missed

I know I might be having a big wedding day on the 3rd September (which is now less than three weeks away - good God it's scary how much I still have to do).
But, and we've not told may people yet so PLEASE don't say anything via Facebook etc etc
Adele and I have secretly run off and got married, with just our parents there, no siblings etc etc.
It was a great day, very quiet and perfect - there were no hymns or dresses or any song and dance, so the big day with the dress, hymns etc etc are still to come on the 3rd. We're now having a blessing instead but we are hoping to tell people face to face, hence not everyone knows yet and hence we're asking people to not put anything on Facebook.
But as far as posting on UTM is concerned - I'm sure that's fine!
I still haven't worked out how to post photos - I need to post them online somewhere else and link to them? Flickr perhaps? If so I will try and create an account at some point, and will put photos of both days up when they're ready.

Do people do these things just to relieve the tension that builds up before a wedding? I've never quite gotten the 'lets-run-off-and-get-married-before-the-wedding' thingy.
But then I am still young and inexperienced with such things. I'm sure clarity will come.
Regardless, my blessings upon you both! May you live to be seriously old and have plenty of kids and grandkids!

I understand how DL feels. For my 1st wedding we did the big thing with lots of people and the big party too. Lots of fuss and lots of stress and a really uncomfortable dress.
For my 2nd wedding we had about 11 folks there including ourselves. It was a nice quiet ceremony. We got to sit and talk and there was no stress. We didn't have to fulfill an agenda or put on a show.
I definitely think more people should just save their money and elope. Spend that money on a nice honeymoon or a down payment on a house.
Congratulations to David and Adele!

Our own wedding ceremony included 45 guests and a wedding performed in a garden. It was the perfect way for us since we invited just our closest family and friends and had a nice wedding reception / party in the garden. That way we still kept it small, relatively less stressful as a full-on wedding might be, and we didn't need to go through the whole church-ceremony
So ... long story short ... we had a wedding specifically perfect for us ...
As for eloping - I'm not sure I would be able to do that as I would like my closest family to know and experience me getting married. We do have some friends who "eloped" and got married at City Hall. The only witnesses were my wife and I + another friend. That was just a bit too weak in my opinion, but that's just my opinion

There were a couple of complicating factors, not least the views of the vicar, who changed her mind about what she would do - after everything was booked! We couldn't start the service any earlier nor any later because of people travelling a long way and the reception starting at a set time, so rather than avoid additional stress it just made life a lot easier.
Having said that, it was a lovely day, and we still get to have a big day with whizz bangs in about three weeks time. Best of both worlds in a lot of ways.
Aside from the ring on my left hand which feels like its made of lead.
(just kidding ladies)

I love how you're only assuring the

If it makes you feel better Fred, sometimes my ring feels a little heavy too.

Congrats... A friend of mine did the same thing... They wanted to get Married on Valentine's day, but wanted a Summer wedding... Here in Maryland Valentine's Day falls on February 14th, which is still a very cold winter month, weather doesn't really start to warm up until the end of March or in April... So just the Maid of Honor and Myself {The Best Man} were at the Valentine's Wedding and we all kept it secret until August when they had their Big Day...
May you have a great many years together... And may all of your ups and downs be in bed... ;}

Congratulations!
I completely understand doing it this way. My wife and I didn't, but the ceremony and whatnot were a huge whirlwind that I don't think her or I completely remember and we certainly didn't have the time and/or mindset to really be able to enjoy it. I think one day we may do a very small renewing the vows ceremony or something similar just so we'll be able to enjoy ourselves this time.

congrats, good idea. I have heard people getting their photo's done before the big day when they are less stressed.
On my wedding day which was the worst day of my life due to the fact my doctor told me the afternoon before that I had a tumor in my pituitary gland & I had to go through with the wedding ceremony as if nothing was wrong. I had to hold all my tears back so I wouldn't look a mess the next day. The hardest thing was the photos, smiling was a chore. I also had to keep it a secret so I didn't upset everyone.
I always wished I had done my photos before the big day.

Oh Lynne,
That does sound terribly stressful for you. I don't know how you made it through.
Photos beforehand sounds like a great idea. You are always worried about looking your best and trying to keep your guests entertained at the same time.

Well, well, well, what have we here? Looks like a containment unit.
Congrats, DL. The bigger the wedding, the greater the stress,
Yes, a heavy ring means a lighter pocketbook.
Adele, huh? Remember there was an Adele - teen, I think - who was pretty regular until the Dragon thing. Not the same Adele, is it?
