Anybody interested in trying Skype?

Just a random question this morning. Does anybody want to try talking using Skype? I've never done it before and was just curious how well it works. Anyone interested in trying to chat?

Skype is basically an open phoneline. With better reception. Once spent an hour talking to a scotsman on it while playing EVE Online.

I prefer Ventrilo, to be quite honest with ya.

But as far as a friendly chat goes, Skype is probably the best choice. Like I said - it's like a phone conversation.

Is there a cost invovled? Can my old Dell handle this feature? Should bat and man be used together? How is a lantern green? Which way.....never mind.

According to the Skype website all you need is a computer, webcam, and an internet connection. It's a free service to call from computer to computer. They charge you if you try to call a land line.

I've tried video chat using my webcam via my instant messaging program but it lagged a bit. I was wondering if Skyped worked any better and if anybody was willing to experiment with me.

Yes Batman sounds okay but Batgirl seems a tad sexist. I mean Barbara Gordan was a fully grown woman.

This doesn't answer your question, but I think it's a pretty cool quote.
In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight
Let those who worship evil's might,
...Beware my power... Green Lantern's light!

Skype is free of charge. And no webcam is required.

I stand corrected. You don't need a webcam but what's the fun of just making a regular phone call. Heck I could do that now.

I'd like to at least pretend I'm like Tex and have a vidphone.

I was going to suggest Batboy, but I think the World Weekly News has that term trademarked.

I was....trying to be......funny. OK, I get what I deserve. Thanks for the funny and accurate remarks.

Sam, thanks for the Green Lantern quip. Nice.

I have skype, and a webcam... never used either one thought. Bought it to do live meeting with clients, but have yet to actually require anything other than a phone call. So I would be willing considering I must use the damn thing for something!

Great! Since we've got a huge time zone difference how about we attempt it sometime this weekend?

Alas I got a webcam so I could chat with family and friends but alas they either didn't have a webcam or are too busy to chat. It's just been gathering dust.

I've got skype but I only turn it on when I'm expecting to make or receive a call. I remember the first time I skyped my best friend. He could see me but I couldn't see him.

In the background I heard his wife saying 'wow! that's so amazing!' shortly followed by 'Can Dave see us? Because I'm naked'

Needless to say I don't use it much - phone calls are much better - you can do something else at the same time, or move from room to room and you can take your eyes off the screen for a bit too.

Well I got my skype set up so I could talk to my brother who now lives interstate, so I am pretty much hooked up 24/7 if anybody wants to chat, or send me their user details.
