Please don't make me go to school
Well it's the fall semester and time for another round of classes. It just hit me today that I've been in school way too long.
After the obligatory 12 years of school, I've done:
5 years to get a Bachelors
3 years to get a Masters
4 years working on another degree with no end in sight
When will it stop? Am I a masochist who keeps coming back for more punishment? Why can't I just be happy petting furry rabbits and dreaming about a farm somewhere? Damn crappy brain insisting on learning more stuff.
Okay I just need to rant for a bit today.

Sam, welcome to my world
Let's see:
2003 - finished year 12
2004 - did not get the score I aimed to get so I started a Psychology degree
2005 - achieved Distinction average marks and transferred across to a more reputable institution and commenced study in Criminology
2006 - combined major with Media Studies
2007 - dropped criminology and combined with a law degree. Now formally enrolled in Arts/Law
2008 - continued Arts/Law
2009 - put Law on hold for 1 year to do honours dissertation in media
2010 - Finished Arts, now focusing on law
2012/2013 - estimated time of completion depending on how I break up the subjects or if I need to repeat any units.
Current age: 25...arrrghhh - i just want to get on with life!

Geez Joel,
You've got a problem with commitment. Just pick something already. Haha.
I've only ever studied two majors and it was definitely not a the same time.
I guess it's true it takes a while to find yourself. Even after you think you've done it, turns out you were wrong and have to start all over again.
Well hopefully one of us finishes before we are old and gray.
Lynne,
Well the goal is to be a productive member of society. I don't intend to use my schooling to become like Dr. Evil if that's what you are worried about.

My Son starts school next week, he has said the same thing for the past 2 months "Please don't make me go to school."... lol

no just wondering about all this education & when people try to put it to use in a professional quite often they end up getting a job that needs no qualifications at all.

Ah I see what you mean. Well for the engineering and science crowd, they won't even look at you unless you've got a degree. We even fired some guy from our company because they found out he lied about having a degree.
I can honestly say I've only used bits and pieces of my degree. Most of what I do for my job comes from on the job training. They mostly want to know that you've got the background for the type of job they want you to do.
Somedays I think it might be nice to quit and run away with the circus, but that's not me. I'm too darned responsible and level headed. I'd never do something that wild and crazy.

It is totally clear to me where you are heading with all that education: The Library. You want to be the next Librarian. BTW, I enjoyed all 3 of those movies.
I had the nominal USA 12 years of education and that was 11 years too many. Kindegarten was the only real grade I enjoyed. End of story; Katie bar the door; 126 pages of Dear John.

I had nine years of standard norwegian education (it's been raised to 10 years now, as the 6-year olds started school back in the 90's), then two more years to study to be a lab technician, and then two years of working as a trainee for my degree. Which I got back in the mists of... aught-two
I hated school. Really. I hated the way some teachers would condescend to you, and some teachers were crap at their jobs. On the upside, I did have one cool teacher. My english teacher from 7th to 10th grade (I skipped 9th because of the aforementioned reform that let the 6-year olds in the schoolsystem bumped us up a year). He caught me reading a book during class once. He came down to the back of the class, all in a huff, irritated that I wasn't paying attention. Ripped the book from my hands, realized it was the Lord of the Rings, opened it and saw it was in english - and handed it right back.
"You keep reading. That's there is a more advanced education than what I have on the agenda for today anyway."
Then again, english was the only thing I was good at in school.
Having realized that that's general studies for you, I have decided to go back to school. I want to study at the norwegian film school, at Lillehammer. So I'll be sending the applications off soon. Hopefully, people who love what they do are better teachers than the half-assed ones I had to deal with growing up.
Oh, and yeah, I'll hopefully be studying writing film scripts. I'm sort of doing that right now for someone, aaand if I'm lucky and everything works out, I can put it on my application.
I never thought I would ever be tempted to go back to school. Life sure is funny.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
I took 2 teachers on in high school and ended up having them fired for their lack of knowledge of the material they were suppose to be teaching...
I just buckled down and did what I had to do, but I didn't like school any more than most people...

I'll confess to being a nerd. I enjoyed school a decent amount. I had some pretty good teachers, but I think part of that was that I was in AP classes, and they tended to have the better teachers. Also, the AP classes were full of kids who wanted to learn and pay attention, which made a big difference.
The only class I remember having a really poor teacher in was AP Microeconomics. I don't know where my school got this teacher, but she was completely lost at sea with the subject matter. So, one of my friends and I ended up teaching the class, more or less.
I would definitely go back to school and get some additional degrees if only being a student paid better.

Ah so you do understand me Dcat. I've always been the nerd too. Gotten the straight A's and always wanted to be the best. B's upset me. For fun I used to compete in math and science contests. What kind of sick person takes extra tests on the weekends just to see if they can beat out the other nerds. I guess that's our equivalent of arm-wrestling contests.
I took the AP classes as well for college credit and took the Chemistry AP exam to skip some classes in college. Yes AP classes were much better since people seemed to care more about learning.
I think I'm addicted to the thrill of getting A's in classes. I'm always looking for my next hit. I'm afraid after I get this degree, it might not stop me.
I remember in Quantum Leap they talked about how Dr Beckett had several doctorate degrees in various subjects, and I thought man that sounds cool! Yes I think I must be a very sick person.

I started in GT classes in the 2nd grade and still didn't care for school a whole lot... Just knew it was the right thing to do, rather than goof off and be average or less...
I took the College Credit courses as well once I got into high school...
Shaved almost 2 years off of my college years... Also remembering just about everything I read or watch, I was able to read the text books in just a couple of weeks and the rest of the semester would be a breeze...
