I rarely get excited about FPS games

However, there have been a few exceptions to the rule. Bioshock, for example, was a great FPS. By which I mean it actually told a decent story in a decent way. Which is rare for FPS games. Bioshock 2 failed massively and fell flat, in my opinion. Which was disappointing. However.
THIS is what Bioshock 2 should have been from the start:

Hopefully, it won't suck.

PS: I'm a major steampunk geek. Can't help myself sharing something like this. Also, it's just really pretty.

Looks really good. I wish I had a computer to do the game justice...

I'm usually not into FPS. But, the first Bioshock got rave reviews and this one looks extremely interesting.

I actually really liked Bioshock 2. The first game was a bit spotty and repetitive, the second game didn't do anything to clear that up but at the very least it improved the gunplay. In the first game the guns were mostly ineffectual and your best weapon was a wrench. In the second game the guns were actually useful.
That said, it's always good to see the original developers returning to the game they started. The new Bioshock definitely looks very cool.

They handed Bioshock 2 over to some other developers, and I felt they kind of dropped the ball. At least the first one had a decent story. The 2nd was just... more of the same, nothing really new.
But then when it comes to FPS games I don't care that much about mechanics as I do about actual storytelling.
Looking forward to seeing what the original team will do with this new one.

Not to completely hijack this thread, but speaking of FPS, I just pre-ordered Fallout: New Vegas. I'll be very interested in how it turns out, especially because a lot of people on the development team also worked on Fallout and Fallout 2, which I thought were (and still are) great. I'm trying not to set my hopes to high so I'm not disappointed, but I'm pretty excited.

The only thing that worries me about Fallout:New Vegas, is that Obsidion's most recent game, Alpha Protocal, sucks so much. At the very least New Vegas is going to essentially be a big fallout 3 expansion, so I might not have to worry in regards to that.
And Fred, I was expecting an absolute horrible game to come out of all four or five companies they had working on Bioshock 2. Maybe because I set my expectations so low it helped to enjoy what was there, but then I like the atmosphere of Rapture. It was more of the same, but it had been so long since I've taken a tour through the underwater city that when I got around to playing Bioshock 2 it still was interesting.

Well, I share the apprehension on FO:NV, but I'm trying to be positive whilst not getting my hopes up so much that I'm disappointed in the game. It's quite a tightrope act.

It has to have a really compelling story in order for me to get into a FPS... Otherwise I prefer the 3rd person view...

Did you ever play the original Bioshock then, Baf?

No Bioshock is one that escaped me... I saw it a few times on the shelves, but something else always caught my eye more...
There is one other FPS that I liked even though it didn't have much of a storyline... SWAT 4: Close Quarters Combat...

The first Bioshock has a pretty decent story. Compelling characters, excellent voice work, an extremely well made atmosphere, plot twists and probably the best water effects in any game yet.

Hey Fred,
I had a couple visitors from Norway last week. One was from Alta, way up at the top of Norway. The other from Trondheim. Now, they're both from Oslo. Actually, they were visiting a very close friend of mine but I helped him entertain them while they were here.
Life sounds pretty unusual way up there in Alta. You git up that way much?

P.S.
I just bought Fallout 3 last week (for 20 bucks). Kind of fun.

I've never even been to Trondheim, and that's halfway between here and Alta. I'm from Porsgrunn, which you can google map and have a look at. It's kind of far to the south. Bit on the eastern side.
Everything north of the Dovre mountains is kind of foreign to me, actually.
Met a lot of people from there, though.

Did they teach you our arsenal of fantastic curse words?
