When it rains... it pours!

Okay, I am in a bit of a predicament... not a bad one, but a predicament all the same:

Recently I got offered a job working for another company for about $50k more than what I am earning now. Naturally I was stoked and accepted... but the paperwork has not been settled yet. Lets call this one JOB A.

Then I get a call this morning from another agency offering me another job, except this one it paying between $60k and $70k more than what I am earning now... so about $20k more than what the first job is offering me. Lets call this one JOB B.

However, here is the predicament: JOB A is a GREAT role, with lots of diversity and will utilise my skill set perfectly, not to mention being in an area where I am most passionate. JOB B, is a role as a leader of a team doing what I have been doing for the past 4.5 years and have been gradually getting bored of. That's not to say I wouldn't be happy at JOB B, because it carries new challenges and responsibilities... but it's definitely not as diverse and fun as JOB A.

Now I must decide: is my potential to feel a little less passionate in JOB B is worth the $20k more or not? Will my passion for JOB A make me a more valuable asset to their team and eventually enable me to earn more anyway? So many questions.

Both jobs are significantly more than what I used to earn, so I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth... but at the same time I would like to make the right decision.

What do you guys think?

P.S. God I just realised how much has changed since I first started coming here. Back then I was a 13 year old boy who was figuring out what to do with his $10/week allowance from dad... and now I am asking for advice about full time careers and salary options! Far out... just goes to show how much a part of my life you guys are, and how I value your advice!
Cub,
Speaking as someone who gets a decent paycheck but as of late was gotten into a rut of doing the same old same old at my job, I'd say go with Job A. Money will make life easier and happier but only up to a certain point.

Think about it this way. You are at work usually for 40 hours a week times 52 weeks a year. That can be a very long year if you aren't in a job you love that lets you try new things. You're job is a big part of your life and if you are not fulfilled there, life can feel kinda blah. Multiply that by a few years and things can wear you down. (See Falling Down with Michael Douglas)

Besides you are still young. Go with the job that will give you more emotional satisfaction. You can always be a manager later on in life after you've gotten more experience. Currently I've been working for about 12 years now so that's my perspective.

go for job A, sound like you are getting rather board in what you are doing now so why go to another job to do the same thing. Chances are soon will not be happy & may want to leave.

just make sure job A isn't going to fall through, chase up the paperwork.

It all depends on what is more important to you... Are you hurting for money to the extent where you'll be content with doing the same thing you've been doing???
Or are you ready for some challenging and exciting work which will most likely give you room to grow...
If you go with the Leader job, you've basically already topped out... I mean what more could there be to it, I doubt they'll end up making you CEO, not that you couldn't do it, don't take offense to my wording here...
So you would already be as far as you can go, unless of course the company expands and they offer you an entire branch to manage, but things like that can be long in the coming... And if you're already bored with it, you might find yourself burned out within the year and by the time you realize it the other job will most likely be gone...

You've been making it for so long on the money you're making now, so I can't see 10K to 20K being a massive loss for you... I recommend going with the Challenging and Exciting Job-A, not to mention with the experience you'll gather from this, it will only strengthen and hopefully speed up your move to the States...

I'm sure you'll do great in which ever one you choose... You're too talented not to...

Ummm Sam, Falling Down with Michael Douglas was about him Losing his job {not because he was bored with it} and regretting the mistakes he made with his wife and daughter...

Baf,
I made the comment in regards of being in a job that drains a bit of your soul over time. Not about losing or not losing it. Dude was probably not right in the head to begin with but being at job for too long didn't help.

It's kinda how I feel these days. Think I've been here too long. Not that I'm planning on doing anything crazy but there are days when I'm quite feed up. The main reason I thought of that movie was he was an engineer in the defense industry.

Job A. For the simple reason that you still earn more than your current job, and get to utilize your skillset and employ your full passion.

No job offer can top that.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
Do you want to teach, or do you want to learn? I guess that's the breakdown for me. You seem more enthused about job A, so it sounds like that's what you're leaning to.

I've been the leader and the team worker bee, and I've found a great amount of satisfaction in responsibility, and mentoring. But that was where I was in my life at the time.

The extra money really doesn't matter that much, you spend what you make.

Good luck on whatever you choose.

hugs
Thanks for all the advice guys and gals!

I must say I too have been swaying more towards JOB A... and I really do see my happiness being worth more than the increase in salary with JOB B. I received the official letter of offer and contract from JOB A today, and am giving myself between now and the end of the week to hear back from JOB B about the status of that position... and if it does not meet my needs as well as JOB A already does, I am going to sign it...

My philosophy is... if I take JOB B, I will always be wondering what I missed out on. If I take JOB A, at least I will know exactly what I missed out on! LOL!

I'm very suspicious about job A because of the statement that the paperwork has not been settled yet. That tells me there's a chance that you won't get job A. So, job B would be my choice, because of the certainty not because of the money.

Besides, if job A comes through, you can quit job B. That may be a bit distasteful, but I've been around the block a few times and I've learned that you must do what's best for yourself and take emotion out of it. Companies don't have any qualms about making such decisions that effect you. Business is business.

Well they sent the contract to me yesterday for Job A and i will be reading over it and signing it today. I will also be resigning from my other job today as well and it feels GOOD!
