I predicted this a few years ago:

This happened just after midnight, early saturday morning just a few hours south of where I live.

A masked robber storms into a gas station, waving a gun around, walks up to the counter, demands cash. He waves the customers to one side of the station. The other customers back a little bit off. Then one woman demands to get her burger. She gets it. She walks back to the other customers. The robber is a bit confused by this, but keeps himself calm. Then she returns for ketchup. Gets a pack. Fixes her burger. A man gets a cup of coffee.

All the while, there's an ARMED, GODDAMN ROBBERY IN PROGRESS, NOT FIVE FEET AWAY!!

I said the following to a friend of mine about 4-5 years ago:

"Y'know, some day, some guy is going to walk into a store and rob the place, and the people will just be treating him like he cut in line or something. They'll let him, because of the gun, but beyond that? They'll just continue waiting their turn."

The robber in this case was caught by police shortly thereafter.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!

In most cases you can challenge the would be robber... They are only there for Cash, and sure as hell don't want to go to jail for murder... Also in most cases the gun isn't even loaded... Granted most people won't challenge the robber and as the public we're told not to, but the statistics stand for themselves...

On one hand it's a shame that no ones cared. On the other hand it's only money. Not a lot to get worked up about anyway.

Working in the security industry I just love a story like that. Although, it was a bit fooloish for those people to do such things. Here in the Detroit area most hold-up robbers carry loaded guns and are looking for any excuse to use them!

I was just stating what I read in statistics... According to most of the officers interviewed for research studies like this, they stated that once they caught the suspect that the weapon turned out to be unloaded...

I would caution anyone and everyone if they find themselves in a situation like that to assume the weapon is loaded and to refrain from doing anything...

I echo your thoughts for Baltimore as well, most of the people carrying guns are just hoping for a reason to use them...

Most O's fans are looking for a reason to unload their weapon as well.
