I saw this silly, pointless video but could not turn away. They are so adorable.

Yes, haha. It's uber cute! Rabbits are amazing creatures, I don't think many people realise how diverse each bunnies' personalities are. Our girl Bella has taken to flopping down at our feet when she wants pats, and Buttons love to play chase.Bafitis wrote:Yes bunnies are very cute... Cub will probably appreciate this video...

I've always wanted to own one, just always ended up with dogs... And I fear what might happen... Because I wouldn't be comfortable leaving it in a cage all the time...
I got a question for you Cub... I see people do it all the time and I always hear that it won't hurt them... Is picking them up by their ears really okay and safe???
I just can't imagine it not being painful or anything...

It's extremely painful for the rabbits, and should never be done. Anybody who says it okay should be told not to do it, as it is cruel to the bunnies.
It's actually quite alarming how many people think it is okay to pick up a rabbit by its ears, but as with any animal (dogs, cats. etc.), there are no exceptions when it comes to picking one up by the ears.
I think the assumption came from when people would hunt rabbits and collect them by either holding or tying their ears... but if course, those hunting the rabbits did not obviously have the animal's welfare in mind.
The correct way to pick up a rabbit is to use one hand to support their hindquarters and the other either under the stomach or front paws. Rabbits will kick if their back legs are not supported. While some people also pick them up by the scruff of the back of the neck (like cats), this is not advised either, as it is also painful. This is becuase unlike a cat, most of the rabbits' weight is in the back legs and it can be quite uncomfortable when all that weight is supported by the scruff behind the neck.
All that said, they are adorable creatures, and surprisingly social. If you are considering owning one you'd be happy to know they are quiet, clean and never smell... but are also playful when they are around you, and calm and quiet when alone. The perfect pets really.

All good to know, thank you... I'm not sure how the dog would feel about a bunny running around, that's what is keeping me from getting one... Like I said, I don't believe in keeping animals in cages, so it would be running free for the most part and even if the dog is just playing, there is considerable size difference and without meaning to he could hurt it really bad or worse...

I'd love to have a rabbit for a pet too but I'm afraid the cats will try to attack it. I'm not sure who would win but rather not keep a rabbit in a cage all the time either. Besides it's too hot in Texas during the summer. I'd feel even worse keeping a rabbit in a hutch outside in this heat.
