new Sherlock series
Hey just finished watching an episode of the new Sherlock Holmes mysteries series from England. It was written by Steven Moffat of Doctor Who fame, and I've got to say I thought it was pretty good.
I liked their reboot (which is amazing since I usually hate reboots). I'm grateful they stayed true to the characters while putting a modern twist on everything.
Instead of sending telegrams, this guy sends lots of text messages.
Instead of smoking tobacco in pipes, he wears lots of nicotine patches.
Instead of horse drawn carriages, he takes taxis.
The whole gang was there too: Mrs. Hudson, Mycroft, Lestrade, and of course hints at Moriarty.
I think Sir Arthur won't have to roll over in his grave over this one.

I finally got a chance to watch this last night and my wife and I thought it was pretty good. I think the guy who plays Watson is pretty brilliant. I wasn't so keen on the guy playing Sherlock, but by the end of the episode I had warmed up to him. I will definitely be wathcing the remainder of the episodes.
I have that one, but have never been able to get out of the first two hours or so of game play. It doesn't really capture my interest. Glad to know I'm not the only one...plumgas wrote:speaking of sherlock , just finished playing Nemesis - sherlock verses arsene lupin.
very boring game, the worse sherlock holmes game I have played.
Plumgas, any Sherlock games you do recommend? I'd like to find one that is intriguing and good in the classic adventure game sense. Nemesis is the only one I've tried.

My wife and I watched it and loved it. Excellent modern day twists and turns along with some new ideas. We loved the actor who played Sherlock and we thought the Watson actor intriguing with a surprise twist at the end.
BTW, a while back there was a 5 episode mystery on BBC starring the same actor who played Holmes. It was very well done and we watched all 5 installments with much elan. However, we cannot remember the name of the show? Any help?

Jim,
The answers to this and any other movie, actor, or television questions can always be found at http://www.imdb.com
The answer to your question is probably "The Last Enemy".

I loved all the references to classic Holmes lore. I like that bit about identifying Harry Watson using the cell phone. I remember in the stories when he did that using a pocket watch. I really enjoyed how all the updates make sense for modern times while keeping the flavor of the old stories.
What's funny was that I spotted Mycroft the first time I saw him. He spoke kind of like Moriarty, but I thought he resembled the old illustrations of Mycroft from the stories.
Loved that quote "Come if convenient. If inconvenient come all the same". Great stuff.
I think the only person missing from the episode was Tobey.

Excellent series - just a shame there are only three episodes, and Sam yes you do meet Moriaty. I won't say anything more for reasons that may become obvious later.
The actor is Benedict Cumabatch or something like that. Someone told me I look like him but I disagree - we couldn't look more different!
They're making a series 2 but it will be interesting to see what happens next if Watson has now been cast as Bilbo Baggins for The Hobbit....
