DANGER: do not buy Gran Turismo 5

Warning warning, danger!

I've been going around the net just giving people fair warning, the game is basically a repackaged version of GT4, sure it does have interiors now, but the game is basically GT4 with a full price tag and misleading features (the australian version says on the box it has multiplayer, but that feature doesn't work in game, it states in game "feature not supported in this version".)

so if you were hoping to buy this game, don't.. I'm returning the game this weekend to get a full refund. I can't beleive I waited 6 years for this pile of ass of a game, 60 million dollars spent, 6 years of development, and an army of developers... What the hell did they do?!

Lets just say that the 1000 cars is hugely misleading, there's about 250 new cars, of which 50 of them were sold in prologue. Of the actual 200 cars included in this game, 90% of them can't even be accessed, the 10% that can don't even have events that they can race in..

THIS GAME SUCKS.
Well, this is disappointing. My copy is shipping to me. I suppose I'll give it a look when it gets to me, but now my optimism is waning.
What are you ranting about? The game is fine. The multiplayer support isn't implemented yet, it's coming in a patch within a few days. The damage system to the cars is coming next week. And they're free, of course.

Also, all cars are available, but they cannot be bought all at once. The car dealerships have them on rotation, so you can check back later and see if it's in stock.

It's also a hell of a lot better than Gran Turismo 4, which was the worst in the series. This game has the feel of good old GT.

Calm down buddy. Give it another go. The features are all there, but you just have to work for them. And to be honest, I prefer it that way. Makes it at least somewhat of a challenge.

sorry but no, the fact that I have to grind before I can even buy a car is insulting, there is an extreme lack of events in this game making it difficult to even enjoy British cars, the only cars the game wants you to buy seem to be Italian and US cars, that IMO sucks.

I've played the game for about 20 hours now, I can't enjoy the game. Sure the multiplayer would be great, but if I wait for that there's a risk I won't be able to return the game.

The standard cars are a joke and ported from GT4, the Premium cars are very disappointing as well you can't even modify most of them. I've talked with a lot of other people and they agree- this game is a very poorly put together package- hardly worth the $80 I paid, its not any different from GT4 except that now its got added Grind so the game takes longer to do anything, and so you're having to grind and grind and grind in order to even enjoy the cars you want, even then there's likely no chance you're actually going to use the cars you want because the game is biased against British cars. Its funny because GT4 didn't seem to have these problems- sure there was license grinding but that's all you had to do, most cars were able to be entered into the many competitions the game had, GT5 however not the case.

It's going back, I've made up my mind. I bought the game with the assumption multiplayer was in the game, its forking on the cover that it says the game comes with multiplayer, so immediately I have cause for a refund- Sony seriously, stop misleading people. I'm not waiting for a feature that should have been in the game at launch.
Calm down baf....er... Cyberpunk

You should just play Mario Kart. Lot less serious. It's just plain silly.

It's fine I'm not trying to have a huge argument here, just want to share my opinion that this product is very misleading, its a case of buyer beware.

Some obviously will get apologetic towards the company, I'm not going to though, think about how long they spent on this game, how much money invested, the huge marketing campaigns.. ALL of it misleading. I cannot accept this product in its present state as its 100% misleading, it does not do what it says on the tin and my rights as a consumer is that it entitles me to a refund.

Its the lack of multiplayer that shits me off the most because its clearly visible on the cover that this feature is INCLUDED in the copy of the game..

In Australia its actually illegal to do this, to advertise a feature that the product does not actually have.
The Trade Practices Act implies the following statutory conditions into consumer contracts:

* The goods must be of merchantable quality. That is, they must meet a basic level of quality and performance, taking into account their price and description. They also should be free from defects that were not obvious to you at the time of purchase.
* The goods must be fit for their purpose. That is, they should do what they are supposed to do and be suitable for any purpose that you might have made known to the supplier.
* The goods must match the description you were given or the sample you chose from. For example, any carpet laid must be the same quality and colour as the sample you chose from.

* You must receive clear title to the goods, including goods bought at auction. In other words, you can expect to own the goods outright and any restriction on ownership should be explained to you beforehand.
I think I make a very good case.
I'm not really that big into the Racing Games, unless they are like Sam said Silly... I do enjoy Mario Karts, Smurf Racer, and games like that... Speaking of Mario Karts, I'm getting my Son the DSi XL for X-Mas and it came with Mario Karts as a bonus... The screen on the DSi is HUGE compared to the DS... I'm not sure who will play it more, him or me... lol

For fans of GT, I'm sorry they are trying to pull a fast one on you guys... I have a couple of connections at my local game stores, I'll say something and see if I can't get them to boycott it or just stick it in the back room or something, isn't much but maybe we can hurt their sales a little...

No, you can't, Baf. It is impossible to harm Gran Turismo sales. It's like the flagship of the Playstation console series. It's been available for Playstation since the first one.

It's way too popular to put a dent in.

And yes, multiplayer is out next week. So technically, Cyberpunk is correct.

I understand your anger at misleading/false advertising. I saw this box saying something was included. Then I heard from others that what was included in the box was an order form to get the item by mail. Very tricky and wrong.

Well, my copy arrived in today's post and after installing it (which took forever), I haven't had any issues, but haven't tried to race online yet, either. I have only played it a couple of hours, so I'm not that far into it, but I don't know about the cars not being accessable. I know you have to get to a certain level to buy certain cars, but I did the first license test and was already at level 5, so I figure I'm well on my way. Of course, I may just not have gotten far enough in the game for the issues to arise.

I don't know about Austalian warranty law, but that warranty language looks very similar to the warranties of fitness for a particular purpose and merchantibility in the U.S. In the U.S. you can disclaim these warranties and they are always disclaimed. You may have something in the way of a false/misleading advertising claim, but if they make multiplayer available, you probably wouldn't have much in the way of damages.

In any event, I wish you luck in returning it. I have a feeling that here it would be difficult, at best, to return once it had been opened. My biggest problem so far is figuring out all the features, but I'm sure that will come as I spend more time with it.
I just checked out the online play and it seems to be up and running, so you may want to give it a look before you take the game back. On the other hand, you may just be so fed up with it that you want to be rid of it, which is understandable.
I managed to get my refund, but it wasn't easy, I had to make my case, lucky I did my research because the girl at the store challenged it and said "but the game has multiplayer look" points to 2 Player Splitscreen. And then I said "yeah but *at this point I'm shaking in rage- trying to stop myself going off at her because its not her fault* the game doesn't contain 16 player online multiplayer, they've said it won't be available in Australia for at least another month *which is true because Australia multiplayer has not been confirmed, only US, Europe and Japan have had it confirmed- Australia is still waiting on that.*" Immediately she quieted up and said "ok we'll refund that for you immediately."

So yay! they did the right thing in the end.
Well glad you got something you wanted... Still a shame about the game though...

Crazy what some companies will do or try to do just to make their buck, especially in this World Economy... You'd think being the Big-Wigs that they would cut us a break and actually try to help us in some way... But that would just be a fool's hope...

Thanks baf, yeah I agree. I don't appreciate being in an industry that does this sort of bullshit to people. More and more I'm just thinking about giving up on supporting the industry (excluding Indies, I'll support indies still just not mainstream AAA developers because they're full of crap and won't help when something does go wrong.)

Its just a shame that the industry has gotten this way in recent years- but not much can be done to stop that.
