A Little Game
Let's see how well people solve stuff. Below is a short sentence directly relating to the Tex Murphy Universe.
Zhibiiye-nitage giizis
The game is this: can you decipher what is said or if not can you even identify what language it is. If you can name the language you get a point, if you can translate it then you win. I will not give any hints and you can post your answers/blind guesses here. I'll be back in about a week or so to see if anyone came close. Good luck!

I'm going to go ahead and guess Anazasi. Because I know giizis means 'moon' in some indian languages.
And therefore 'Under a Killing Moon'.
-Fred
And therefore 'Under a Killing Moon'.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
The language is Ojibwe... I'm not positive of what it translates into though... Something tells me that your documentary is about the Ojibwa Indians, am I right???
I'll take a stab at the translation though... Only thing I could find was for giizis and what I found referred to it as Dark Sun...
So my Blind Guess is: Black Sun Ascending
Wasn't that the name of one of the final chapters in Pandora???

Well I have returned and ready to unvail the answer to the little game:
Zhibiiye-nitage giizis = Under a Killing Moon in Ojibwe!
I can't believe you guys got as close as you did. Fred you answered within minutes of my posting it on the board. I'm shocked you got the giizis part and the right answer. Baf I am shocked you got the right language all together. I doubt I could have guessed it. Well done detectives! But seeing as no one put those 2 things together saying that it was Under a Killing Moon in Ojibwe . . . everyone loses. Hahaha Just kidding, well done guys.
As it turns out I was filming a class for the documentary where the teacher was instructing on Ojibwe and that class just happened to be about the months of the year. Seeing as each month of the year is based on moons, the word giizis (moon) kept popping up and made me think of Under a Killing Moon. So I thought I would check if you guys were able to figure it out. I doubt you would have even come close had I have written it in Ojibwe. If you wanted to know what you would have been in for, google Ojibwe writing, wouldn't have been so easy. Actually in hindsight, I should have done that. Meh, live and learn.
Hey if you want a conversation piece, I brought home the papers on the months of the year if you're interested. Take a look below:
January------|Gitchi-giizis-----------------------------|The Big Moon
February----|Migiziwi-giizis---------------------------|The Eagle Moon
March--------|Niki-giizis--------------------------------|The Goose Moon
April----------|Omaagakiiwi-giizis---------------------|The Frog Moon
May----------|Zaagibagwaawi-giizis-----------------|The Budding Moon
June---------|Baashkaawano-giizis------------------|The Egg Breaking Moon
July----------|Aabita-niibino-giizis--------------------|The Mid-Summer Moon
August------|Waatebagaawi-giizis------------------|Leaves Turning Brown Moon
September -|Moozag-gaa-wiijiindiwaad-giizis----|The Moose Mating Moon
October-----|Binaakwe-giizis-------------------------|The Leaves Falling Moon
November--|Gashkadini-giizis------------------------|The Freezing Moon
December--|Manidoowi-giizis------------------------|The Spirit Moon
Each month is based on an event that happens in that particular month. Most of them are self explanitory but I can't remember why a couple of them are named what they are but that's what it is. Enjoy and again, congratulations! I can't believe you guys even figured that much out. Oh yeah, PS, the documentary isn't exclusively about Ojibwe, it's about all aboriginals in Canada and even a few from around the world.

Jim the old guy wrote:I always knew there was a special reason to learn the Ojibwe language. The only reason I did not take that class is the school I went to was run by Souix Indians.
