Batman: The Dark Knight Rises

So the villains are out. I called Catwoman and The Riddler early on. And, it's Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, and... for some reason that I'm not yet comprehending... Tom Hardy as Bane.

Yes.

Bane.

What... the... hell..?

I actually don't know anything about Bane but judging from the images on Google, he seems a bit sci-fi and comic book for the tone of this film. I remember Nolan stating this was the reason they decided against the Penguin as a villain for his vision of the film. I suppose they had Scarecrow but that was still handled in a way that was believable in terms of the rawness of the characters.

You never know though, when Heath Ledger was announced as Joker my reaction was just like that of yours with respect to Bane and I ended up thinking Ledger's joker was possibly the greatest take on a Batman villain to grace the screen. So we'll see. Given that each of the villains in the Nolan vision of Gotham have had a modern and real world feel, despite their comic book qualities, Nolan's take on Bane will be interesting.
Thing is, though... I... don't really find Bane to be interesting. He's a very boring character.

Doesn't he just grunt and beat his chest? Basically Gotham's answer to WWF.
Why did you call Riddler, they had posted in an interview that Riddler would NOT be used... I think a lot of use were on the Catwoman side... It was one of the only ones that made sense...

As for Bane, I only know of Bane from the one with Poison Ivy... So I have no idea what he was like in the comic book...
He was a chemically induced superhuman... I didn't much care the character, but it suited the movie well, because it just seemed fitting to give Poison Ivy a Bodyguard...

But according to what I've heard and read, this set of movies is suppose to be shying away from the Sci-Fi element, which makes you wonder what exactly is Bane going to be... What was his character like in the comic book???

Bane is sort of a realistic character if you think about it.

He get some super steroids and has an endless supply.

He was the main villain in Darkness Falls.
He breaks batman's back and puts him out of commission for a new batman to take over.

Reason I don't understand why he is in the film is because it is called The Dark Night Rises.....
I don't see it ending with batman paralyzed.

I trust Nolan, though. He hasn't made a bad film yet.
Matt
Maybe the Movie will be based over a time span... Maybe Batman gets his back broken near the beginning of the film and then it skips to a few months down the road and then Batman Rises once again... Just a though...

If they were to go that route, maybe they should have made it a 2 part movie with the first part being named The Dark Night Falls... But I don't think people would have liked a Batman movie ending with Batman losing...

We'll just have to wait and see...

I called Riddler even before the 3rd film was confirmed. When they said Riddler wouldn't be in it, I changed my opinion to Catwoman and Two-Face. Then they confirmed Two-Face was dead and then just stuck with Catwoman.

I'm fairly certain they'll change Bane a lot, though.

In the comics, Bane is actually lethally clever and intelligent. He's also got tons of super-strength. His biggest weakness is his fondness for his teddybear.

No joke.

I forgot about that.

I don't think Bane will be breaking Batman's back, to be honest.

I seriously don't know how Nolan will put him in the story.
Matt
I don't think the film will end with Batman being out of action or dead. I'd be disappointed if it was!

Not without having a movie that brings him back immediately following the one that took him out...
You can't end Batman, you'd end up with riot on your hands, not to mention destroy your career in the process...

I'm really looking forward to the Green Lantern movie coming out...

I wonder who they have planned for the next Superhero debut...

I would love to see Danny DeVito again in the new Batman as Penguin / Oswald Cobblepot
He the only guy that can pull it off!:)

I am uncertain but I hope the film script is good and the film will turn out good. I just hope the actor pull a good performance as Bane.
Only problem with them having Penguin is that they said they aren't going to go too heavy on the Sci-Fi side of things... Having birth defects is one thing, but actually seeming to be half Penguin would be something else...

Now they could have done Mr. Freeze, just not in the way that they did it with Arnold... They could have had a bad guy that used freezing technology as his weapon... They would have just had to make him a regular guy though, instead of what they did with Arnold...

What about Gearhead???

There are a couple of other choices, but a lot of them have too much Sci-Fi mixed into them...

I always thought that Mr Freeze sounded more like a lollipop stick than a baddie you could take seriously.

As for the penguin, yep, I can't see how they could come up with how a man got half penguin genes.

I like the reality angle rather than the campy angle of the old baddies.

I'm surprised this has surfaced so early, but here is the first image of the film's villain, Bane:
