That would have been a great opportunity for a one word subject of EARTHQUAKES!!! But sadly all trends must come to an end.

Its really upsetting watching the footage, seeing them pull bodies out of the buildings and the injured.

No one told me there were bodies, but I guess that should have been a given.

Crazy stuff - apparently they have 14000 earthquakes a year - that must be like 7 a day or something.

don't really know how many they have but they had a 7.2 in september which they still haven't recovered & this one was higher.
In australia we don't have earth quakes but we have everything else. Cyclones are only up the top of australia & probably coming from elsewhere since we are " down under."
Maybe the whole world is really ending next year after all, I think I will go shopping & have a good spend up while I can.
here is the stats, didn't know it was this bad, no wonder we have half the country living in australia
4.0-4.9 333 1 per day
5.0-5.9 26 2 per month
6.0-6.9 2 2 per year
7.0-7.9 1 1 per 3 years
8.0 or over - 1 per century

I heard about this on the radio on the way to work. It sounds horrific. I just heard from a former teammate of mine who is in Christchurch and he's alright, so I'm thankful for that. But my heart goes out to everyone affected by the quake.

Yes does seem that 2011 is starting out to be a very rough year. I just heard on the news that 4 Americans got killed by Somali pirates.
Maybe we should start building bunkers again and hide out for a while.
It's times like these we should hug our loved ones a little harder.

All of you make some good points but I think Sam strikes close to the heart. With everything going on in the world today we need to take a step back and analyze events for what they are - a sign! Many believe the end of the world is near or at the very least a major upheaval in the current ways of governing. I have met a few "survivalists" over the years and they firmly believe something is going to happen sooner than later.
BTW, I am NOT forcing an issue here or trying to stir up a mega-controversy. I am just saying what some people think. I keep an open mind either way. And, I like the idea of hugging those who are near and dear to our hearts.

I was actually kidding about building the bunkers. I wouldn't necessarily say I think end times are upon us, but I can understand why some people seem scared.
As for me I agree with Lynne. Let's enjoy what we have now.
"Let's eat, drink, and be merry for tomorrow we die!"

OK, I'm with Sam and Lynne.
Still, a terrible tragedy in NZ. Let's hope the rescue personnel can save a few lives and minimize the damage.
