Our bit of news

Sadly not good news - our car got stolen yesterday. Someone broke into our house, took the car keys and took the car.

Then the milkman turned up at 5.25 and left a note saying he found our front door wide open. Amazingly they left the laptop and TV and other things. Had the police and CSI round yesterday and today we're working out a life without a car for a short while.

Oh David that's terrible. I feel so bad for you. They must have been desperate for a car. At least they didn't take everything. I'm glad you guys weren't home and didn't get hurt.

Oh wow man. I am so sorry to hear about that. I find it miraculess that he didn't take anything else though. I guess you have that on your side. Hope you find the jerk face.

that's terrible but hopefully the police department in your area will find your vehicle.

what kind of vehicle and year? I assume the scumbag broke into your house at late evening to early morning around 11pm-5am before milkman arrived while its dark and your neighbor are sleeping at night.

whoever the scumbag is would be a total idiot if he broke into your house during the day or you are living in a bad neighborhood infest with criminal scumbags.

My best guess is that its probably Caucasian but its highly lightly a Hispanic or African American that stole your vehicle as a get away from police from bank robbery or using it for transport illegal drugs, illegal weapons, or vehicle theft as your vehicle probably a luxury vehicle (dunno what kind of vehicle) with high value parts that is inside your vehicle...and, whatever the reason why they stole your vehicle only since they didn't want to bother stealing the rest of your stuff inside your house is odd for criminal to just break into a house then steal a vehicle key and leave the rest alone. I assume, whoever the criminal is, they were probably watching your house closely or you have friends or close relatives and knew you guys were going to be gone or maybe someone you upset and decides to steal your vehicle while you were a way to gets you back. I am just guessing possibilities.

I find it surprising they were able to find your vehicle key and usually when someone vehicle theft a vehicle they usually break into a vehicle instead of breaking in a house and find the key and then steal the vehicle like its nothing since there were nobody home.

You talk with your neighbors as maybe they heard a loud bang or something at night? You might have eye witnesses.

maybe you should set up alarm system at your house by ADT and get a dog as well?

Sorry to hear man.
Well, there aren't that many hispanics here in Romford, but who knows who did it. Probably caucasian and probably a man, but who knows. The police have been round a few times including today to make some recommendations. Amazingly they've pointed out small things we never thought of but it's made us realise some things we need to do going forward.

At least we now have a burglar alarm and the place is locked up and alarmed every night. I just wish we'd done that before now. The police think the car is long gone sadly. Didn't sleep much last night but have a huge to do list which I'm quickly working my way through.
David
You mind giving us tips about what police office told you on this small things you never thought of that made you realize to go forward? Give us pointer ..
well I am glad you got it alarmed as often when they don't take anything they come back.

One of the tips that the police often recommend is to have your house clear with a view from the street. So many people have hedges & shrubs that screen your house so robbers can disguise what they are doing.

A security light out the front also helps

I'm so sorry that your car got stolen, I'm glad no one got hurt. I hope that the thief either gets caught, or they abandon your car after using it.
Me too, thanks Jen.

The police mentioned that the road near ours is a hot spot at the moment because it is a long straight road with lots of speed bumps in the road - that way they can see the police from the end of the road and the police can't hurry down to catch them.

Also they suggested things in the garden, more than one lock for the shed, all windows always locked (obviously) but keep the keys locked away too and not in sight of the windows. Thieves can break double glazing glass easily (I thought it would be loud and a deterrent). Things like that really. No joy yet, but they left a set of keys, so as we have to walk everywhere, we're walking different routes and using the keys to 'lock' the car, so if we happen to pass near it we should see its lights flash. It's a longshot, but better than nothing.

Needless to say our place is like Fort Know right now - alarms installed and set everytime we're upstairs or go out, we lock ourselves in even when we're in now, putting more locks on the doors etc.
David
That's terrible the bad people have made you have to lock yourself into your own home. That's not right. I hate how they not only steal your property but your peace of mind as well.

did you check your refrigerator? im not american but i know of people who have stolen cars and they'r potheads... and have the munsheys..(no joke).. thats why the laptop is still there and the TV.. ( you cant carry lots of food and a tv at the same time)

oki dont pay any heed to this reply since its silly.

but yeah, sucks bigtime to get robbed, and in your own house, but dont get carried away with installing too much "safety" equipment, you get a bit paranoid, and the statistics say that if you allready have bin broken into they dont come back to steal more (if gangster movies have told me anything your house is now what they call "HOT")

You know what Thomas Jefferson said, he who trades freedom for safety ends up loosing both.
What im saying dont go to far, youl know when you have gone to far by the sise of the mote going over your lawn, and a minefield in the back yard. oki now im silly again.

take care mate and do what you think is best for you and your loved ones.
If your house key(s) were attached to your car keys, have you taken the time to change your locks? Just a thought.

Many years ago I awoke during the night & went to the bathroom & found the loungroom light on, I assumed my house mate had left it on. In the morning went I went to the kitchen I found my bag gone. It seems that they were in the house & quickly left when they heard me flush the toilet.
