I am playing a game called Destination: Treasure Island when something rather mysterious took place. Tuesday night the game was playing really nice when I got tired and went to bed. Since I planned on playing it the next day I just left the CD in the drive (something I've done with many games over the years). Well, Wednesday morning I try to play the game and got an error message saying: place CD1 in drive. But it was already there! After several tries I removed the CD and looked at it. There were two white marks about the size of a man's fingernail on the CD. They almost looked like some kind of burn smudges. I tried to clean the disk but nothing happened. It seems like it was wiped clean - on those two areas. Any ideas? BTW, the game was on my older XP Dell, not the new machine.

Shame on you this is not a Tex related question, but I'll help you anyway.

First check and see if it's the CDROM or the disc itself. Try to read the game disc in your new computer and read another disc in your old computer.

If you can read the game disc in the new computer but cannot read another disc in your old computer, the CDROM in your old computer is guilty.

If your old CDROM is guilty, you might want to open up your old computer and make sure all the wires to the CDROM are plugged in all the way. If they are then your CDROM might have died. If they are not, plug them back in if they have gotten loose and try again.

However if you cannot read the game disc in your new computer then something else is going on.
