MP3 and me

My wife wants a MP3 recorder with FM radio. Apparently you can be at a convention, tune into the appropriate radio station, press record and get the whole thing live. My problem is this: I have no idea what I just said! As always, I come to my dear friends here at UOTM for assistance. If there is such an animal, can you recommend a particular brand name and model? It would be greatly appreciated.

jim,

there a lot of gadgets that record in mp3, I have a hd player which has radio & also records.
you can add divx & mp4 movies & mp3 music to the hard disk, add photos & you can plug into tv or pc.

the wife being at a convention, does she want to record the radio station or the convention. if its the convention it wouldn't work unless she had it close to the speaker.(the person doing the talking) It would only work if the convention was being recorded live to a radio station & if that was the case why would anyone need to be at the convention, they could just tune into the radio station.

There are many models of mp3 player that support fm radio recording. Here's one example.
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Walkman-S-54 ... 727&sr=8-5

Just look for an mp3 player that has an fm tuner and microphone built in. In every case I have seen so far, the ones with an fm tuner and microphone can record radio broadcasts. Of course the quality of the fm receiver and antenna vary widely so be sure to look at the reviews. From what I see, the sony one I linked to is pretty good.

with mine I cannot pick up a single radio station so I think you need to go to a store to test one out.

I knew you all would come to my rescue. Thanks!

The convention has its own FM station available ONLY during the program and ONLY in or very near the auditorium, for the hearing impaired. A friend says she has a MP3 with a mic and FM availability. Last year she tuned the MP3 to the FM station, pressed record and got the whole thing recorded and downloaded it to her computer.

Lynne, dear friend, you always say some of the most interesting things. :D We go to these conventions so as to "feel" the experience, share with others, and, I am slightly embarrassed to say, gets me out of 3 days of work. But, as usual, you make a valid point.

Thanks for the link, Gunslinger. This may be exactly what I am looking for.

well Jim the answer is simple, ask the friend the make & model number of theirs & buy that one.
At least you can be sure that it will work.

MP3s that record radio? I always wanted one of those. Presumably you can get them to record when you're at work?

Sad as it might sound, Radio 4 does plays, sometimes with famous actors and actresses, but they're always in the afternoon and last for hours. Having something like this would be really cool.
