Happy independence day, Americans

Don't blow any fingers off with firecrackers, now. And enjoy the day!

The British swore that any slave that fought for them in the war would be free when it was over. Unfortunately, the war was not going well for their side and General Washington was demanding that the slaves be returned. At this point it was unlawful for the British to keep the soldiers who had been slaves, however it was too much for one commanding official in the British army who said to return these men to slavery "Would be a breach of the public trust." These men were given given British land in Canada and later Sierra Leone with which the Americans were NOT pleased.

Later a former slave of George Washington who was living in Freetown was getting tired of oppressive British rule. He would lead an uprising that would not be as successful as his former owner. The British would crush the dissent by making soldiers of former slaves that had hid away in the mountains of sugar plantations, giving them a free pardon for their theft of British goods.

If British didn't piss off the founders and the people back in late 1760s without tax reps. and boston tea issue, and among others then we probably be English with British flag instead of our American flag today with English accent, I think?

Agreed, and the entire world would have been better for it. Both world wars would have ended sooner, with fewer causalities.

That said, America today is the total betrayal of the foundations in which the country was created.

Slavery was never abolished in America, it was merely replaced by debt. In the end the banks own your house, your car, your job, your entire life.. the second you piss them off you're out on the street. America is indebt to China.. so what does that say about the country?.. China used to be slaves to American capitalists.. with the worst working conditions in the entire world. Because American capitalists are greedy assholes they figured "hey we can screw over our fellow citizens and outsource it to cheaper countries" the end results is that the industrial capacity that made America the greatest nation of the 20th century has now been sold to China.. You are all slaves to the Chinese, at least until the debt is paid, everything you buy is Chinese, made by Chinese workers.. you are NOT independent at all. I came to realize this about Australia as well. I don't like it one bit, but in the end so long as one of the largest countries in the world is under the same constraints we're forever doomed to be unable to stop it from happening.

With that said celebrate the history, celebrate that people sacrificed their lives trying to free the british colonies from a tyrannical and corrupt king. Do not celebrate it for the now.. because modern America is a hypocracy.
oooh do you have thunder kings in america :D? they baned them in norway a long time ago.. still miss them though..

mr_cyber.. you a watcher of esoterictube ;)? but dont blame china, blame the "federal" reserve, a privatly owned bank who presses the american dollar. Do you know that when they "buy" 3 billion dollars they set themself 2 billion in dept. thats why the national dept of the US is damn high.
but who cares right? Bread and circus.
blame the "federal" reserve, a privatly owned bank who presses the american dollar.
you can't just invent money, the "Federal" reserve got its money from the Chinese federal reserve- same goes with Australia as well. The reason why America landed in a worse position than Australia was because it had no industrial capacity to support its huge population whom at the time were all in debt, the GFC occured because no one could pay their loans back, this lead to companies being shutdown because even the capitalists were operating via debt. In Australia because we had the industrial capacity that the population was more than able to participate in, the GFC didn't hit us as hard.. sure it hit us hard enough to force us to take out a loan from China, but our economy survived and is presently flourishing- though it could be owed to the more socialist policies that our government is trying to enact now- something the US politicians are too afraid to do even if it is the best possible course of action.

China wants to dictate global policy, a big part of that is taking away western countries sovereignty.. which it has pretty much done. Eventually it'll try to take over our lands and companies- this is something that is happening right now, in Australia all of our primary industries are being bought by Chinese investment groups- no doubt the exact same thing is going on in the US- this is something everyone should be afraid of.. they're trying to cut us out of the industrial process..

In all fairness the amount of money the US borrowed actually went up, yes the article is old but the concerns it raises are still very much valid today, the US in fact owes China $2 trillion dollars- with China worried that America will unlike pay them back. Most of its debt is owed to private companies and private investors. Cutting spending in America is a good option sure but it results in a low quality of life for all Americans.

The point I was making with the article is that the United states has become addicted to foreign debt, China is buying up companies because it doesn't trust America (or the west for that matter) to be good on the return- our economic sovereignty in the west is at the mercy of capitalists and the Chinese government. If America wants to be free from foreign debt it has to start rebuilding its own economy and stop relying on Chinese labor for everything- because its the main reason why so many people were unable to find work and pay their debts.

Anyway the GFC shitted me off big time, its the main reason why this is a bit of a tough issue for me, when it did happen I was like "Who the hell caused all this" most of it is the result of having foreign investment and having a global economy where by debt was the governing power of capitalism and debt was being traded globally, the second someone was unhappy with the return they were getting they pulled their investment and caused the entire system to collapse around the world.. what is stopping China from doing the very same to the US? if it did pull its investments the government could go bankrupt.. this is why current US politics is so concerned about cost cutting in the budget.. however I feel that it is the total selling out of any decent Socialist policies that exist in America, that eventually America will be "Everyone for themselves" and the government will provide no public services for its people- which is very bad.

In the end I want to see America flourish and restore western civilization to its former glory that it was during the 1990s. It shits me off to see the balance of power tipping in the favor of the east because its scary given their history- these are not countries I particularly would want to trust with the entire fate of the world. (China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, India ect..) if they're allowed to dictate global policy the way America has for the entire duration of the 20th century I don't think any good will come of it and rather these countries will aim to seek revenge for the years in which the west held them under its boot.

China is my biggest concern because of their communist like government and its large population, its going to seek to dominate the entire world economically and politically.. I don't want that to happen ever.
I'm not a patriot by any means....and if I had the chance to leave this country and move to a small island and live the rest of my days in a loin cloth chasing nubial women, I would. (Thanks for that Tex) I don't view the 4th of July as it is supposed to be viewed. I see it as a chance to get low scale explosives and light up the sky and also get a day off from work. Maybe my point of view is contributing to the degradation of our society. If so, sorry. But I just like fireworks.

Celebrate its historical significance is what I'm trying to get across, if you celebrate it because America is "still" an independent country, then you're doing it wrong ;). I know I'm buzz killing a bit but I have the same feelings about "Australia Day" as well, I don't want to celebrate my country knowing what it does to its people and what it intends to do with China, I believe that its selling out what makes these countries great, and I believe that the holidays have become commercialized too much.

Sorry if I'm annoying people, I've just been really pissed off with the news lately.
Oh I agree whole heartedly about holidays becoming too commercialized. The fact of the matter is, this is a capitalist society. Any way a dollar can be squeezed from someone, they will do it. What better way to do that than with a holiday, and americans who have the day off and some money in their pocket.
